SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Honda has agreed to pay million to settle allegations surrounding airbag failures.The lawsuit was brought by a collation of Attorneys General in 48 states.According to the Attorney General of New York the settlement, "Concludes a multistate investigation into Honda's alleged failure to inform regulators and consumers of issues related to the significant risk of rupture in the frontal airbag systems installed in certain model cars, which could cause metal fragments to fly into the passenger compartments of many Honda and Acura vehicles."The California Attorney General’s Office says Honda also agreed to a number of injunctive terms to protect consumers, including requirements that it include design features that protect vehicle occupants in the event of an airbag rupture and a prohibition from engaging in false or misleading advertising related to the safety of its frontal airbags."For years, Honda failed to warn consumers and regulators of the potential dangers of its airbags. That type of business practice not only violates Californians' trust but endangers lives," said Attorney General Xavier Becerra. "Every time we get into our vehicle, safety is a priority. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Hoteliers across San Diego are seeing a significant loss of business from mass cancellations as efforts continue to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus. The San Diego Convention Center Corp. reports five conferences have either been canceled or postponed, meaning upwards of 43,000 people would not be coming to San Diego and spending money locally. "The hotel industry has seen a significant drop in business, a significant impact on the workforce," said Namara Mercer, who chairs the San Diego Hotel Motel Association. "Anecdotally the shifts are being cut, people aren’t going to work if occupancy is not high."LIST: San Diego events, schools that have changed plans due to the coronavirusAs conferences cancel, large convention hotels downtown are finding themselves with hundreds, if not thousands, of unexpected empty rooms. That can be costly also to other hotels. "What do they do? They reduce their rates - the big convention hotels - and then they start taking away business from all of us who are in outlying areas," said Bob Rauch, CEO of RAR Hospitality, which owns three San Diego County hotels and manages nine others.Rauch said cancellations were up 15 percent last week, and he expects that to increase to 25 percent this week. He says he expects it to peak next week at 35 percent before he expects things to calm down. As of now, he has not cut staff hours, but he said things could change if the loss of business continues to persist. "If this worsens over the next couple of weeks, we will create some kind of shared pain program," said Rauch, adding that it would likely involve cutting hours across the board so no employees are laid off. According to figures from AAA, the price for a gallon of gas gone up more than 50 cents in less than a month. AAA also says that the price has risen for 21 consecutive days and 27 of the last 28 days in San Diego County. California's gas tax is also set to increase by 5.6 cents on July 1, 2019. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — For the second time in as many weeks, several train cars derailed near the downtown San Diego area.The BNSF Railway Company says 19 cars derailed at about 9:40 p.m. Friday while traveling at slow speeds. The train cars were carrying automobiles.The backup continued into Saturday morning.
