Zillow?recently released some statistics on what new home buyers can expect to see when getting into the San Diego market. Zillow found that, over the last five years, starter homes are actually increasing in value faster than other homes.The site says the quick appreciation is due to the demand for entry-level homes growing faster than supply.RELATED: Del Mar home sells for more than million in San Diego housing milestoneHome value appreciation among affordable homes is beneficial for people who own homes, but makes it tough for buyers trying to get into the market, according to Zillow.In the San Diego metro, there are 26 percent fewer starter homes to choose from than in 2017, where the typical entry-level home is worth 6,300.But there's good news for those lucky enough to land a home. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - More than 2,000 people whose lives have been affected by breast cancer started the Susan G. Komen 3-Day walk in San Diego Friday.One year ago, Leslie Heiser got the news she never expected to hear: she was diagnosed with breast cancer. After a year of treatment, doctors have declared her cancer-free. What started as simple motivation to get through tough days turned into what she believes will be a life-changing experience.The walkers participating in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day event will cover 60 miles in three days. All are doing it for different reasons: some walking in memory of loved ones, others showing support for those battling cancer. And my biggest cheerleader from treatment to surgery. Those moments when you really need someone you can depend on, rely on, my rock," said Heiser.Each participant raised more than ,000 to do the walk. Giving all those involved a sense of camaraderie as they flood the streets of San Diego with signs of pink while sending positive vibes to those who see them.Heiser adds, “it’s really about the experience of sharing it with other survivors and other people who have been impacted by breast cancer. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Neighbors in Hillcrest say an abandoned church has become a campground for the homeless. The church sold the land to developer LMC North Park Holdings in 2018. They were still leasing it out until about a month ago. That's when residents say the homeless started moving in. "It's more or less the drug crowd, sex trafficking, stuff like that that winds up utilizing these areas," he said. The spot on Park Boulevard and Meade Avenue is boarded up, covered in graffiti, and littered with needles. On Tuesday, firefighters say transients smoking drugs started a fire at another vacant building a few blocks down. Passante says it's just a matter of time before that happens at the church. "It's the same people you see over and over and over again and most of them have some kind of mental illness," said Passante. "The quicker places like this can be demolished the less we'll have that problem.LMC North Park Holdings says they are aware of the problem and have hired 24/7 security. Our crews didn't see any security guards while out there for several hours gathering the story. They say they've been waiting on permits and have plans to start demolition by the end of the year. 1206

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Nearly one week after Election Day and with state Assemblyman Todd Gloria holding a comfortable lead, City Council President Pro Tem Barbara Bry conceded in the race for San Diego mayor.As of Nov. 9 vote totals, Gloria was leading Bry 56% to 46%.During a virtual press conference on Monday, Bry said she called Gloria the day before and offered her congratulations. Regarding the campaign, Bry said she felt voters were misled by the media and political ads from the opposition.Bry said, "I want to congratulate Todd Gloria as the next mayor of San Diego. He and I spoke by phone yesterday, and I offered him my congratulations. But for the next few years, our city faces many challenges because of COVID-19, and Mr. Gloria will have a tough job. Thousands of San Diegans are unemployed through no fault of their own and city revenues are declining."She added, "I wish those issues could have been more central to the mayoral campaign. We certainly tried to make them the focus of our communications. Unfortunately, interest groups supporting my opponent took a different approach.Perhaps inspired by the ‘fake news’ rhetoric coming out of Washington, they spent over million on TV commercials and mailers cynically designed to fool voters into thinking they were sponsored by our campaign. In times past, dishonest advertising of that sort would have been called out by responsible journalists, and voters would have been made aware of these cynical tactics. But the media -- like many citizens -- has become so desensitized to such tactics that they no longer pique their interest. And, unfortunately, these dishonest attacks clearly impacted our campaign."When asked if she would run for mayor again, Bry said she may not seek public office again. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One San Diego restaurant has been awarded one of the most prestigious accolades given to eateries.Chef William Bradley's restaurant Addison at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar was given one Michelin star in the guide's first California edition. The guide awards between one and three stars to restaurants, meaning either "a very good restaurant in its category" (one star), "excellent cooking, worth a detour" (two stars), or "exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey" (three stars).Addison, a contemporary French restaurant, was San Diego's only restaurant to receive a star and one of 90 to receive at least one star in the California guide.RELATED: Michelin names several San Diego restaurants as 'hidden gems'In a statement to 10News, Bradley said the award is "humbling."
