BOAO, Hainan, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Entrepreneurs and economists of the Chinese mainland and Taiwan have considered the expected signing of a cross-Strait economic pact as a top priority in further development of their trade relations.The long-awaited Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA), aiming to normalize mainland-Taiwan economic ties and bring the two economies closer, is hoped to be signed by the end of June.Fredrick Chien, chief advisor of Taiwan's Cross-Straits Common Market Foundation, said here Sunday the ECFA will be an "extremely important" agreement to strengthen future development of cross-Strait relations."As long as we make this stride, the cross-Strait economic and trade exchanges will get much closer," Chien said at the Boao Forum for Asia annual conference which concluded Sunday in southern island province of Hainan.He jointly presided over a round-table meeting with Dai Xianglong, chairman of the mainland's National Council for Social Security Fund.

Hormats said here Friday he is very optimistic the United States and China could address problems in a constructive way.He made the remarks when delivering a speech at the China Institute of Contemporary International Relations. Hormats, who once served as a senior economics advisor to Dr. Henry Kissinger, has visited China many times.He hailed the U.S.-China relationship that has witnessed "remarkable development" since the two countries forged diplomatic ties.But that does not mean there are no differences or competition between the United States and China, he added.Still, when looking back, the differences the two countries have been resolved in a constructive way, he said.The two countries' leaders understand they need to get along, he said.Hormats has made the visit to China amid calls in the United States for China to let its currency, the yuan, appreciate in value against the dollar.He said the United States commends China for its efforts to undertake rebalancing in China, and "we think China had made great progress.""We do not regard the competition with China as a zero-sum game," Hormats said, adding that strong growth in China helps the United States.The U.S.-China relationship is extremely important, and the two countries have a great opportunity now to do things in their common interests, he said.At the upcoming Nuclear Security Summit in Washington, Chinese President Hu Jintao and U.S. President Barack Obama will meet while the second China-U.S. Strategic and Economic Dialogue will take place in May.Hormats also said the two countries need to enhance collaboration within the global architecture, and expand cooperation in areas such as clean energy, innovation and economic rebalancing.Hormats will also attend the annual meeting of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) in China's southernmost Hainan Province.

SEOUL, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao focused his efforts on promoting cooperation with South Korea and in East Asia on Saturday, the second day of his three-day tour in South Korea.BLUEPRINT FOR REGIONAL COOPERATIONAt an annual trilateral summit held in South Korea's southern resort of Jeju, Premier Wen, South Korean President Lee Myung-bak and Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama unveiled a blueprint for trilateral cooperation in economy, security, environmental protection, cultural exchange and other areas in the next decade.The leaders agreed that after making clear the detailed objectives and long-term goals within the next decade, all sides need to concentrate efforts on boosting trilateral cooperation to a new height, so as to further consolidate partnership, achieve more in mutually beneficial cooperation in all aspects and enhance friendship between the peoples of the three countries.They also agreed to set up a more cooperative mechanism to increase strategic mutual trust, which involves setting up a trilateral cooperation secretariat in South Korea in 2011 to jointly tackle natural disasters, discuss the possibility of a mechanism of trilateral defense dialogue to enhance security contacts, strengthen political dialogue and cooperation in police affairs, and boost government exchanges at local levels among the three nations.On developing sustainable economic cooperation and common prosperity, the leaders pledged efforts to finish by 2012 a joint feasibility study of trilateral free trade agreement, which was launched in May 2010, and to expand trade volume ahead of 2020 for the benefit of regional economic growth and integration.The leaders said the three countries will complete negotiations on investment agreement and provide a favorable investment environment to facilitate the operation of enterprises in the region.They also reiterated the importance of customs cooperation, and vowed to further cooperation in finance, science and technology, innovation, as well as policy cooperation and negotiations in such areas as energy efficiency and resources."An open, fair and liberalized multilateral trade system is not only conducive to China, Japan and South Korea, but also important for the world. KHARTOUM, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Sudanese official said Saturday that the China-Arab Cooperation Forum constitutes an important platform to upgrade the economic, commercial and social ties between China and the Arab world."The China-Arab Cooperation Forum is important as it constitutes one of the major mechanisms to enhance and strengthen the economic and commercial relations between the Arab states and China," Abdul-Baqui Jailani, Sudanese state minister for humanitarian affairs, told Xinhua, one week before a ministerial conference of the China-Arab Cooperation Forum scheduled for May 13, in Tianjin, China.Jailani regarded the Sino-Sudanese cooperation as a model for the Arab countries to follow suit, saying that "Chinese experience in Sudan deserves to be studied thoroughly and it deserves to be repeated elsewhere in any other African or Arab country"."I think if we take for example oil industry, exploration and production services, the Chinese have proved to be at the highest level of development in this industry in particular, and I think we can develop this in other similar countries where there are reserves of petroleum," he added.He went on to say that "China is working with full transparency; they can build confidence with others without any hindrances or obstacles."The Sudanese official further called upon the Arab and African countries as well to give the Chinese a chance to invest and cooperate, adding that "such cooperation will result in mutual benefit for both China and others nations."He affirmed that China's contribution to establishment of development projects in Sudan would help in achieving lasting stability and peace in the country, saying that "for example, if we concentrate on development, on infrastructure, we will come to peace in Darfur.
