BEIJING, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- China's Supreme People's Court (SPC) has urged more efforts to clear the backlog of cases as a campaign to complete long-delayed verdicts had seen positive results.Various local departments were urged to be "fully aware" of the importance of the speedy execution of court orders and tackling the backlog of cases, said a statement released Tuesday after a meeting on backlogged cases.The meeting was jointly held by the Political and Legal Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the SPC.Statistics cited in the statement show that since a campaign on clearing backlogged cases started in November 2008, long-delayed verdicts for more than 333,000 property cases had been completed.In addition, more than 3 million cases not involving properties had also been cleared.The two organizations urged police, banks, financial administrative departments, tax departments and other units that might be involved in case execution to fully support and coordinate the enforcement of court orders.The statement also called for harsher punishments and restrictions in real estate, credit rating and other fields for defendants who refused to follow court orders."The campaign is in accordance with the people's interests... and will have positive effects on promoting social harmony and stability," said Wang Lequan, deputy secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Commission, at the meeting.

Last night, we felt sorrow when the whole village gathered to have our last dinner in our hometown together," a villager surnamed Wang said.The government paid the dinner and organized a troupe of gong and drum players to cheer up the villagers.Their journey was the starting point for the nation's largest relocation program after that of the Three Gorges Hydro-Power Project, which involved the relocation of 1.27 million.The relocation for the building of the central route of the SNWD by 2014 will involve 330,000 residents - 180,000 in Hubei and 150,000 in neighboring Henan Province.The project is designed to take water from a section of China's largest river, the Yangtze, to satisfy demand in the north China's drought-prone megacities - Beijing and Tianjin.According to the government, from Wednesday until September 30, about 60,000 people will be relocated.At the farewell scene, a fleet of 15 coaches carried the villagers while 34 trucks loaded with the villagers' belongings was followed by a number of ambulances with the village's elderly, unwell and pregnant."We may set a record in terms of speed of relocation -- 60,000 people within 50 days. PIRAEUS, Greece, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Two Chinese naval escort warships arrived in Greece's Piraeus Port on Monday, kicking off a five-day visit.The vessels, destroyer Guangzhou and frigate Chaohu, are part of the fifth Chinese naval escort flotilla, which just completed the escort mission in the Gulf of Aden and Somali waters to protect commercial ships from pirate attacks.Chinese Ambassador to Greece Luo Linquan and some 200 Chinese nationals came to the port to welcome the arrival of the two Chinese warships. Waving Chinese and Greek national flags, the enthusiastic Chinese living in Greece greeted the Chinese sailors with cheers.They were excited when allowed to tour one of the ships."We are so excited to have a chance to board a Chinese naval destroyer," Wu Hailong, a Chinese businessman in Athens, said, adding that he and his friends come to Piraeus early in the morning from central Athens to welcome the Chinese navy soldiers.Zhang Buren, a Chinese national from Taiwan who has lived in Athens for more than three decades, said he was very impressed by the elegant demeanor of Chinese navy soldiers.
