SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Border Patrol agents arrested a man after finding more than million worth of narcotics inside his car.According to the agency, the incident began around 4 a.m. on October 4 when the 21-year-old man, a US citizen, entered the I-8 checkpoint.As agents questioned the man, a K-9 alerted authorities to the vehicle.After searching the car, agents found 36 wrapped packages under the driver’s side front tire.The brick-shaped packages were later found to contain 84 pounds of cocaine and four pounds of fentanyl pills.“Criminal organizations go to great lengths to conceal and smuggle dangerous narcotics in order to make millions of dollars. This is done without regard to the health and safety of our communities. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Caltrans is warning drivers about a series of SR-163 closures throughout the week. According to the agency, all lanes of north and southbound SR-163 between I-8 and Genesee Avenue for three to six nights. The highway will be closed so crews can remove falsework from the bridge on the SR-163 Friars Road overcrossing. The southbound closures will begin at 11 p.m. with the northbound closures starting at 11:30 p.m. All lanes will reopen at 5 a.m. The list below shows which lanes will be closed on certain nights: Sunday: All southbound lanes, the northbound far right collector lane and the right main lane (slow lane).Monday: No full freeway closure. Only the northbound and southbound right main lanes.Tuesday: All southbound lanes, and the northbound left lane (fast lane).Wednesday: All northbound lanes, and the southbound left lane.Thursday: No full freeway closures. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- COVID-19 outreach in the Latino community is getting a boost after San Diego County partnered with promotoras to help with contact tracing. Promotoras, which literally means promoters, are bilingual community health workers. The goal is to lower the high number of COVID-19 cases among Latinos in the county. Latinos and Hispanics make up almost 63% of COVID-19 cases in the county, but Latinos make up only 34% of the population.The promotoras are members of the communities where they will be working. The county announced the partnership at the beginning of August and now the promotoras are out in the community helping with contact tracing. The promotoras will work in underserved communities and Latino neighborhoods. ABC 10News spoke to two promotoras working with South Bay Community Services. They are getting ready to start on September 1st. In total, 17 promotoras with the organization will start on that day. They've all received hours of training and are certified contact tracers. The promotoras will have the task of reaching out to the close contacts of positive COVID-19 cases. The contact is made over the phone or via email and text and the promotoras will ask things about testing and if they're presenting any symptoms. The county's partnership also includes promotoras from San Diego State and will include promotoras that speak other languages like Tagalog and Arabic. 1421

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Apple says it will temporarily close all of its California storefronts, as the number of coronavirus cases surge in the state, according to multiple media reports.The company's Golden State locations, including stores in Carlsbad, Chula Vista, Escondido, and two in San Diego, were all listed online as "temporarily closed" on Saturday.Apple says each store will be open for pickup of existing online orders, previously scheduled in-store Genius Support appointments, and previously reserved one-on-one shopping appointments made through Tuesday, Dec. 22.No date was listed online for when the stores would fully reopen.The closures come as California continues to see a surge in COVID-19 cases.
