MADRID, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Spanish branch of Industrial and Commerce Bank of China (ICBC) was officially inaugurated in Madrid Monday.ICBC President Jiang Jianqing, Spanish Minister of Industry, Tourism and Commerce Miguel Sebastian and Chinese Ambassador to Spain Zhu Bangzao attended an inaugural gala dinner here.In a speech, Jiang thanked the Spanish government and authorities for allowing the ICBC to open in Spain and highlighted the importance of the Spanish economy and the close relations between the two countries.Sebastian said Spain welcomes the arrival of the biggest Chinese bank, which would further improve the already good relationship between the two counties.The Madrid branch is to provide a wide range of financial services to 166,000 Chinese nationals living in Spain.ICBC has a total of 386,723 employees and 162 foreign branches throughout the World.

SHANGHAI, March 17 (Xinhua) -- Lenovo Group and a subsidiary of Shanghai Media Group (SMG) signed an agreement on Thursday to create a firm that would provide mobile-Internet video services.BesTV New Media Co., a subsidiary of SMG, owns 51 percent of the venture, named Shanghai Video Cloud Company Limited, while Lenovo owns the remainder. The total investment of both parties in the new firm exceeded 10 million yuan (1.52 million U.S. dollars), according to the agreement.Lenovo is currently the largest personal computer maker in China. BesTV New Media is a provider of Internet Protocol Television (IPTV), mobile television and other forms of new media. 

SANAA, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- In response to earlier reports that a Chinese-flagged commercial ship was hijacked by Somali pirates off Yemeni coast, the China Maritime Search and Rescue Center (MSA) said Sunday that the ship has never been hijacked, and is now sailing safely with escort of the Chinese anti-piracy navy fleet.Both the "Tien Hau" ship, which was registered in Hong Kong, China, and its 22-member crew, are safe, a MSA official confirmed to Xinhua over the phone. The center contacted the ship to make sure it was safe, he added.The ship had been followed by a suspicious boat for a while, but it was never attacked or hijacked, the official said.Earlier, Yemeni Interior Ministry had said the ship was hijacked by pirates some 20 kilometers off the Yemeni island of Al-Tair off the city port of al-Hudaida, and was heading to Somali coast.The Gulf of Aden is considered as one of the world's most dangerous waters because of rampant piracy.

SAN FRANCISCO, May 26 (Xinhua) -- Internet advertising revenues in the United States surged to 7.3 billion U.S. dollars in the first quarter of 2011, the highest first-quarter revenue level on record for the industry, said a new report released on Thursday.The numbers also represented a 23-percent increase over the same period a year earlier, the Interactive Advertising Bureau ( IAB) and PricewaterhouseCoopers said in the report."The consistent and considerable year-over-year growth we're seeing demonstrates that digital media is an increasingly popular destination for ad dollars, and for good reason," Randall Rothenberg, chief executive officer of the IAB, said in a statement."As Americans spend more time online for information and entertainment purposes, digital advertising and marketing has emerged as one of the most effective tools businesses have to attract and retain customers," he added."These numbers indicate that the interactive advertising field hasn't simply bounced back since the recession; it's growing with dynamic energy," noted David Silverman, a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers.IAB, a trade association for interactive marketing, comprised more than 500 media and technology companies who are responsible for selling 86 percent of online advertising in the United States.
