SEATTLE — Add marine wildlife to the growing list of life affected by America’s opioid crisis.For the first time, scientists have detected traces of oxycodone in mussels near Seattle, KIRO7 reported. Biologist Jennifer Lanksbury explained whatever people eat and excrete — including opioids — end up in waterways.“It’s telling me there's a lot of people taking oxycodone in the Puget Sound area,” Lanksbury said. Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife officials extracted mussels from clean water and put them in urban areas they wanted to test for contamination. There was enough oxycodone in a Seattle-area bay for the mussels to test positive.The system that filters water catches a lot of contaminants, but it can’t specifically filter out drugs, Kings County Wastewater Management said.“Those are definitely chemicals that are out there in the nearshore waters and they may be having an impact on the fish and shellfish that live there,” Lanksbury said.The data was from a one-time study for prescription drugs in Washington’s waterways, but officials say they will try to get more funding to continue research. 1163

(KGTV) -- Cell phone video reportedly taken Wednesday morning shows San Diego County Sheriff's deputies at a San Marcos home that's been at the center of an ongoing battle. When Team10 arrived, there was an eviction resolution notice taped to a window on the property. Neighbors tell us that they're thrilled the eviction process is finally underway. This is a story that Team10 has been following since May - when we spoke with a local hopeful home buyer, John Masnica. He says Julie Frisino and her family unlawfully moved into the house while Masnica was in the process of closing escrow on the bank-owned foreclosure. Wednesday, he told us, "She's just a deadbeat from a family of deadbeats that take advantage of the system." He went on to say, "I hope that now that they're out of this house that there aren't any other available houses for them to try to break into."Frisino took the situation to court, claiming she had rights to be there. This summer, a judge said the bank trustee, not Frisino, had rights to the home.Masnica and his wife are due with their fourth child. SAN YSIDRO (CNS) - A pedestrian was struck and killed by a van early Monday morning while he was attempting to cross a San Ysidro street, police said.It happened shortly before 1:10 a.m. in the 400 block of East San Ysidro Boulevard, San Diego police Officer John Buttle said.The unidentified man, believed to be in his 40s, stepped off the east curb of East San Ysidro Boulevard and was struck by a 64-year-old man driving a 1999 Chevrolet Astro van in the northbound lanes, Buttle said.The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, Buttle said.The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with officers, Buttle said.Alcohol or drugs were not believed to be factors in the collision, Buttle said.
