SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KGTV) - While some California counties are seeing stable rates of coronavirus cases and hospitalizations, others are seeing numbers they say raise concerns, according to the California Department of Public Health."We actively monitor all 58 counties and their current data," Governor Gavin Newsom said at a press conference on Monday.According to the California Department of Public Health's website, "The state will work closely with Local Health Departments to identify action steps and timelines for addressing issues that impact indicators of concern.”"We are providing technical assistance, we are providing resources, human resources and physical resources," Newsom said.As of Wednesday, state officials were working with 10 counties that have impact indicators of concern.At a Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors meeting earlier this week, health officials explained the state's concern about hospitalizations.Health officials told the board, they were working to find out if the increase was in Santa Barbara County residents hospitalized or people from outside the county."What this means is we will be meeting with the state (Wednesday), the team, to talk about the drivers of the increased hospitalization and what our next steps in addressing and monitoring a stable hospitalization," Santa Barbara County health officials said on Tuesday.Other counties on the list are dealing with things such as elevated disease transmission potentially from public protests with large numbers of people in close proximity without face coverings and outbreaks in skilled nursing facilities and prisons.According to the California Department of Public Health's website, "Over the past several months, California has used data and science to drive our response to COVID-19. The county data posted below is intended to give Californians insight into how their county is doing and provide some early indication of developing areas of concern.""It is incumbent upon state and local governments, business sectors, and individuals to work together and take actions that limit the transmission of COVID-19. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 24-year-old La Jolla man who was wearing a Jesus costume when he sucker-punched a San Diego police officer at a Gaslamp District Halloween street festival was sentenced Thursday to 270 days in jail, which will be served on weekends.Eric Van Vleet, who was arrested in Idaho's Cassia County four days after the Nov. 1, 2019, attack, pleaded guilty last year to a felony count of battery on a peace officer resulting in injury.San Diego County Superior Court Judge Melinda J. Lasater ordered that Van Vleet serve his time in county jail on 35 consecutive three-day weekends, totaling 105 days, with the rest of the time earned through custody credits. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A former Navy police officer who engaged in sexual acts with a 14-year-old Oceanside girl after convincing her on social media to send him sexually explicit photos, was sentenced 20 years in federal prison Monday.Isaiah Smallwood Jackson of Vista was convicted last fall of sexual exploitation of a minor and enticement of a minor after he convinced the girl to send him nude photos, then meet for sex outside her home. He was 21 at the time and is now 23.Following his prison term, Jackson will be on supervised released for 10 years and will be required to register as a sex offender, which will preclude him from initiating contact with minors, loitering in places primarily frequented by minors, or using the Internet unless the device can be monitored by U.S. probation officers.RELATED: Jury convicts man of using social media to convince 14-year old to have sex with himProsecutors say Jackson met the girl on an app called "Spotafriend." Her online profile indicated she was 14 years old, yet when she asked Jackson if it was bad that she still wanted to "cuddle" with him, he told her, "Not at all, is it bad that I don't care about your age?" according to court documents.The two continued talking over text messages, during which he attempted to persuade her to meet up with him for sex, despite her stating she was nervous and unsure if they should meet.Jackson responded by telling her, "Please I'm dying to see you."When she said, "I know it's hard to say yes because I only known you for 2 days over the phone," Jackson responded, "Take a leap of faith?" according to court documents.Eventually, he went to the girl's home, where they engaged in sexual acts outside the house.After he left, the victim told her sister, who contacted police. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 45-year-old man got into an argument with two males at the entrance to an alley in San Diego's Valencia Park neighborhood and was shot in the back Friday evening.The shooting was reported just before 8 p.m. at the entrance to an alley at 53rd Street and Imperial Avenue, San Diego Police Department Officer Robert Heims said.The man was standing with his girlfriend when the two males walked up, argued and one male fired several shots at the victim, hitting him once in the back, Heims said. The suspects fled the scene in separate vehicles, one of them red.Paramedics took the victim to a hospital where his injury was not believed life-threatening, Heims said.Gang detectives were investigating, Heims said. 738
