McDonald's announced it's tripling the amount of scholarship money it's offering to its employees to help them get a college degree.Eligible crew members can receive up to ,500 per year and managers can make up to ,000 a year, up from 0 and ,050 respectively.One of the workers who has taken advantage of the program is Jackie Southam from Henderson, Nevada. She's been working at McDonalds for the past 8 years.During that time, she's risen to become a manager, and she's also gotten help from McDonald's to earn a bachelor's degree from Nevada State in biology with a minor in chemistry.With the additional funding increase, she's planning to go back this fall and pursue a master's degree in public health.Her goal is to become an epidemiologist and work for the Centers for Disease Control.She says she's had to pay her entire way through school working two jobs, and the scholarship from McDonald's helped her get through.Right now, UNLV costs around ,100 a semester for state residents, and the College of Southern Nevada is around ,400, plus other costs like books and transportation.McDonald's isn't alone though. Working for several other large companies can also help you get assistance with tuition. Best Buy, Walmart, Verizon, and Bank of America all offer similar types of help.  1333

MANHATTAN, N.Y. — Police took an alleged attempted rapist into custody Sunday after a Saturday morning assault inside a Manhattan subway station, authorities said.The woman, who was headed home from work, was followed off the train and onto the Q train platform at the Lexington Avenue–63rd Street station around 11 a.m. Saturday, NYPD Chief of Detectives Rodney Harrison said. Jose Reyes allegedly pushed the 25-year-old woman to the ground and tried to rape her."It's a heinous act," Harrison said. "It's horrible." Bystanders on the platform rushed over to intervene, and Reyes alllegedly stopped the attack, according to police.A witness took cellphone video of the suspect before he fled the station.The victim suffered minor injuries and refused medical attention at the scene, police said.Reyes had been spotted smoking hookah before the alleged attack, Harrison said. He allegedly had several narcotics in his possession. MAUI, Hawaii (AP) — Authorities say the man killed by a shark in Hawaii this weekend was a 65-year-old resident of California.Shark warning signs are posted Sunday in the Ka'anapali Beach Park area on Maui where the man died.Witness Allison Keller tells Hawaii News Now that the man appeared unconscious as rescuers brought him to shore Saturday.Keller says the victim was missing his left leg from the knee down and skin was torn from his wrist.Hawaii's Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement confirmed the man's age but did not release his name. Officials didn't say where in California he was from.The man's family told rescuers he had gone swimming in the area.The last fatal shark attack in Hawaii was in 2015, when a snorkeler off Maui was killed. 773

LOVELAND, Ohio -- Someone drove through the wall of a sports bar near Cincinnati early Sunday after a fight, according to another patron.The vehicle, a Kia Optima, crashed through a fence, across a patio and into the side of Zappz Sports Bar and Grille in Loveland, Ohio at about 2:30 a.m.Blake Freeman, who was at the bar, said the driver smashed into the building on purpose after being kicked out. Freeman said he arrived moments after that."I was standing there 30 minutes prior to this happening.
