In an act of mob justice, a man was beaten to death after he tried to steal a car with three children inside, Philadelphia police say.The man, 54, drove off with the car while the children's mother and father were in a store Thursday night, police said. The parents chased down the vehicle by foot and pulled the carjacker out when he got stalled in traffic. The thief assaulted the father and fled, but a large crowd stopped the suspect and beat him, police said. The suspect was pronounced dead at Temple University Hospital.Police are investigating and had not made any arrests Friday afternoon.A spokeswoman for the district attorney's office said prosecutors are waiting for police to complete their investigation before commenting. 747

Jackie Wilkinson recently picked up an unknown call at her home. Her cable company was showing on her caller ID, so Wilkinson did what she normally doesn't do with unexpected calls: she answered. "It appeared that Spectrum was calling, our provider for internet, phone and cable services, so I answered, " Wilkinson said.Other customers report receiving similar calls that show up as Cox, Comcast, Xfinity, Charter, Optimum, and others. The caller immediately offered to help lower her bill, so Wilkinson perked up."He asked, 'Do you want to save money?" Wilkinson said. "Naturally, in this day and age, who doesn't want to save money? So I said yes, and he said, 'Great, now tell me how much you are paying.'"But that last comment from the phone rep raised a red flag."These are questions I would think Spectrum would already know," she said. "They can see your billing price right there!"Who was really calling? When the caller then told her she could save money by signing up for a satellite TV service instead, Wilkinson realized it wasn't really Spectrum Cable on the line.Instead, it was a case of "spoofing," where a fake number shows on your caller ID.Scammers have been spoofing the numbers of the FBI and IRS for several years now and getting people to answer the phone that way. It was only natural they'd start pretending to be your cable company. We contacted Spectrum, and the company said it has other complaints about these calls. It recently sent out a warning to customers saying: "If an offer doesn't sound right, customers may ask the representative on the phone to validate they are an employee by looking up their account number. Spectrum representatives will always have an account number." Then call your company (at their customer service number on your bill) and ask if there is any such person working there.Wilkinson just wants to warn others."If you see your cable company calling, you think its important," Wilkinson said. "The phone number appears on your phone as if they are the cable company, so everything seemed legitimate up until the questions." But cable providers never call you to chat about lowering your bill or offering a discount. These callers are either overly-aggressive sales people for competing services (such as various satellite TV firms), or are outright scammers trying to get your account number or credit card number.Never give personal information to someone who calls you, so you don't waste your money.___________________Don't Waste Your Money" is a registered trademark of Scripps Media, Inc. Israel's Beresheet, the first privately-funded mission to the moon, has crashed. The spacecraft aimed to perform a soft landing on the moon and would have made Israel the fourth country to do so -- and by far the smallest. Only the United States, the former Soviet Union and China have done it before."I am sorry to say that our spacecraft did not make it in one piece to the moon," said Opher Doron, the manager of Israel Aerospace Industries' Space Division."We made it all the way to the moon. This is a great accomplishment. We are the seventh country to make it all the way to the moon."The 0 million spacecraft, built by SpaceIL and Israel Aerospace Industries, lost communications with the control room in Israel during the landing sequence. As program managers who had been watching the mission in real time tried to re-establish communications, they also dealt with issues in the spacecraft's main engine. At the time of the communications failure, the Beresheet was traveling at approximately 2,110 mph and was about 120 kilometers (about 74 miles) from its intended landing site."There is a suspicion that we did not land on the moon in the best fashion. We are trying to clarify the matter," a member of the SpaceIL team monitoring the landing sequence said. The spacecraft crashed in the last part of its journey, moments before it was supposed to land.SpaceIL was founded eight years ago to compete for the Google Lunar XPrize. The contest offered million for the first privately funded team to launch a spacecraft to the moon, transmit high-definition video and travel 500 meters in any direction. The XPrize was cancelled in January 2018 but the Israeli team decided to continue its pursuit of the moon landing. The Beresheet spacecraft was launched on board a Falcon 9 rocket in late February. It traveled a total of 4 million miles to the moon, soaring around the Earth before entering orbit around the moon. 1940

Lawyers for the Department of Justice plan to tell a federal judge in Maryland Friday afternoon that the Trump administration will continue to explore options of adding a citizenship question to the 2020 census, according to an administration official familiar with the plans. The official stressed that as of now the census will be printed without the citizenship question.Earlier Friday, President Donald Trump said he is considering his options which include a potential executive order, or an addendum to the questionnaire that would allow the question to be added at a later date. Such a move could require the administration to provide a new justification for the addition of the question, following a Supreme Court ruling requiring a new rationale. The move by the Justice Department would mean that the administration will face daunting legal challenges and a tenuous timeline. Judge George Hazel in Maryland had told the Justice Department that if the administration refused to definitively say it will not add a citizenship question to the census, he would establish a schedule to hear new evidence over the next 45 days. A parallel proceeding will continue in New York as well.Growing frustrated at his administration's handling of 1253
