The smell has finally started to fade inside Salazar's place, and they can begin renovations.But there's something else that's made Harvey--and losing his apartment-- that much tougher for Salazar."When I came in here, I just started crying, like I was hurt. This is my house, the place I shared with my mom."Salazar shared the cozy one bedroom with his mother up until her death just over a year ago. She had Leukemia, and for a while it had appeared she'd beaten it, thanks to Salazar; he was the bone marrow donor."And then the cancer came back."She died soon after."I mean, I never really lived on my own until this past past year. It was difficult the first couple of months, and it still is."It was so hard in fact that Salazar had to put most of what reminded him of her--family photographs on the walls and tables--and hide them on the top shelf of his closet. "There was just a lot of memories there, and I just felt depressed every time I saw them."But heading home to take stock in what stayed dry, Salazar takes down the boxes of photos--some of his mother's most cherished possessions, now his, too. Harvey, he says, is his turning point. He's quick to stress that he'll always be thinking about her, but no longer will he feel the need to dwell on his mother's death."This flood is actually--it's kind of a good thing because, you know, I can rebuild and make the apartment my place and my home," he said, welling up with emotion. "It's going to give me a chance to move forward and be able to come home and relax, instead of always thinking about my mom."And you can bet that after Salazar decides which photos to display on his walls once more, the boxes with the others will go back up onto the tallest shelf he can find."They're safe with me." 2944

Hurricane Hunters have been flying in and out of Hurricane Delta continuously for days, getting a close-up look as the hurricane has re- intensified.Delta regained some of its previous fury. The hurricane, which was once a Category 4 before striking Mexico, dropped to a Category 1 on Wednesday. As the storm is set to strike the Louisiana coast on Friday, Delta has re-intensified into a Category 3 hurricane with top winds of 115 mph.As of Thursday evening, the hunters found that Delta had a 30-mile wide eye. Getting such detailed data from inside the hurricane can give forecasters a sense of the impact a hurricane will produce.There are two Air Force Reserve groups that fly into hurricanes to send back data to the National Hurricane Center.In total, the Air Force Reserve utilizes 20 WC-130J aircraft that are equipped with palletized meteorological data-gathering instruments.According to the Hurricane Hunters, “The navigator keeps track of the aircraft's position and movement and monitors radar to avoid tornadic activity. The flight meteorologist acts as flight director and observes and records meteorological data at flight level using a computer that encodes weather data every 30 seconds. The weather reconnaissance loadmaster collects and records vertical meteorological data using a parachute-borne sensor known as a dropsonde. Tammy Duckworth gave birth to a baby girl Monday, her office announced, the first US senator to do so while in office."Bryan, Abigail and I couldn't be happier to welcome little Maile Pearl as the newest addition to our family and we're deeply honored that our good friend Senator (Daniel) Akaka was able to bless her name for us -- his help in naming both of our daughters means he will always be with us," Duckworth said in her office's statement.In her statement, Duckworth used the event to advocate that rules should be changed so she can bring her baby to Senate votes.Duckworth had her first child in 2014, when she was serving in the House of Representatives.An aide close to Duckworth told CNN she's doing well and taking 12 weeks to bond with her new daughter and take care of her family. She's staying in Washington, DC, for her maternity leave and is available to vote as needed.When she gave birth to her first daughter, she took her maternity leave at her home in Chicago, but this time she and her and her husband decided that she would give birth in the DC area in case she needs to vote, the aide said.Akaka -- a Democrat from Hawaii who served in Congress for more than three decades -- died Friday at age 93.
