SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Seven families are suing the company that runs the San Diego County Fair after they say members of their family contracted E. coli traced to the fair's livestock last summer.The lawsuit alleges the 22nd District Agricultural Association, which runs the annual fair and the fairgrounds, was negligent in its handling of the petting zoo area, failed to safely guard guests and warn of risks, properly inspect and clean, and screen animals at 2019's fair."People were getting sick all the way from June 8th to June 22nd, at least," said attorney Ben Coughlan, who is representing the plaintiffs. The County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency traced the outbreak to children that had visited the animal areas or the petting zoo at the fair, or had other animal contact at the fair, county health officials reported. Officials added that the illnesses had no link to any food facilities the children accessed.The family of 2-year-old Jedidiah King Cabezuela, from National City, is also represented in the suit. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Students and staff at Morse High School may have been exposed to tuberculosis, according to the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency. According to the agency, the periods of exposure were from June 17 to July 26 during summer school, then again from August 26 to September 10. Health officials and the San Diego Unified School District are working to notify those who may have been exposed. Testing will be provided on September 24 from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Morse High School for students identified as potentially exposed. The district is providing testing to staff who may have been exposed. Tuberculosis is transmitted from person to person through indoor air during prolonged contact with someone who is infected. “It is important that we identify those who have had prolonged close contact in an enclosed space with the TB case and test them since the initial infection usually has no symptoms,” said Wilma Wooten, M.D., M.P.H., County public health officer. “Early diagnosis and prompt treatment can prevent the infectious form of the disease.”Symptoms of TB include persistent cough, fever, night sweats and unexplained weight loss. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Several Californians are suing a state senator for blocking them on his Twitter page, a lawsuit which could impact how all members of the public are allowed to interact with their elected officials.The lawsuit alleges that Dr. Richard Pan (D-Sacramento) violated the rights of several people when he blocked them. Pan is the senator who wrote the 2015 California law that requires children to get vaccinated before going to school.Those who are suing Pan are advocates against vaccination. Pan and other lawmakers argue that people should not be allowed to post or comment what he considers to be false and misleading claims about the safety of vaccination on his page, which he says helps spread dangerous information.RELATED: DOJ to appeal ruling that Trump cannot block social media usersBut others argue that the social media pages of elected officials are public forums, therefore open to everyone with speech protected by the first amendment. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Students at the University of California San Diego are still reeling from Wednesday's storm that flooded more than a dozen apartments.Students told 10News they were shocked when water poured in around 11 p.m. during the storm. She said once she opened the door mud and water flowed in.She said the timing was terrible."I have a midterm Monday, I'm actually getting tutoring right after this, it's a bit crazy."Students scrambled, trying to get help from the university and relocate. One student told 10News she never got help from the university, despite calling multiple times Wednesday night and getting a case number.Thursday morning cleaning companies went to work, installing fans in the rooms and peeling off baseboards.Some students said the university is doing a great job."Is there something we can brainstorm to fix this so it doesn't happen in the future, because I can only imagine what's going to happen next week when it rains harder and I'd hate to come back from break and see, 'oh everything's damaged." a student said.The university said four students were relocated to temporary housing. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — SDG&E announced Fire Safe 3.0 innovations to advance wildfire safety at its headquarters in Kearny Mesa Tuesday.It's the power company's plan to use more advanced technologies to improve wildfire safety. Instead of using weather data updated every 10 minutes, they utilize data updated every 30 seconds instead. SDG&E's chief meteorologist explained they're using artificial intelligence-based models that make weather data more accurate and they're monitoring more than 500,000 trees in the area using a "Vegetation Risk Index."It helps determine how those trees might impact power lines or become fuel for fires.
