SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Gas & Electric customers across San Diego County are on standby Thursday for possible power outages due to an increased risk of fire. About 34,000 homes and businesses received 48 hours' notice of the possible shut-off to lower the hazard posed by power lines, according to SDG&E. The utility company issued two additional notices Thursday and downgraded the number of affected customers to about 18,000 at 4:45 p.m."Notifications are made via multiple channels: outbound dialer calls, text messages, and emails. Varner said she and her kitchen staff have to be smart about perishables in case the power goes out. “We actually don’t have a generator, so we have been kind of trying to prepare just by not overstocking any of our food or slicing perishables that will go bad,” Varner said. Like many others, he was at the pump filling up his gas can for his backup generator at home. "You have to make sure that it [the generator] is working so that we have some power. Get us through this little event. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego City Council President Georgette Gomez has floated the idea of turning the second floor of Golden Hall into a permanent homeless shelter.Gomez made her comments Tuesday as the City Council unanimously approved a plan to use the second floor as a temporary shelter for three months while a Father Joe's bridge shelter is relocated. The current shelter for women and families at 14th and Commercial will close April 1. The city plans to build a new tent shelter to open on a lot at 17th and Imperial by June 30. Construction will cost million and the city will lease the land for ,000 a month. "So why spend million to put something back when we can actually spend million in maybe long-term leases to try to find a permanent solution," Gomez said. The Golden Hall concourse is about 1.5 miles away, and steps from City Hall. The bottom floor is still used for various events, including naturalization ceremonies and performances. Greg Block, a spokesman for the mayor, said long-term at Golden Hall wouldn't work for Father Joe's."For their clients, they need to be close to their main campus," he said. "Going back and forth via shuttle and all kinds of things isn't a workable solution for these folks that are there longer term."Bill Bolstad, chief revenue officer for Father Joe's, said the 17th and Imperial location would help residents get health and child care and employment services. "All kinds of things that are infinitely easier to provide when it's right next door, that's why we're very excited about the location down there," he said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police are warning parents in the Carmel Valley area after a man reportedly exposed himself to students walking to school Tuesday.Police say a man was in the passenger side of a parked car on Carmel Creek Road, and exposed and touched himself inappropriately with the car door open. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police have located a woman who disappeared from a Hillcrest bar in October. Lindsey Snider separated from her friends at Urban Mo's on October 28 just after midnight, police said. Officers found her cell phone on November 6.Police said Tuesday in a report that Snider is from Michigan and is not familiar with the San Diego area.Police said Snider has a history of disappearing when she uses heavy amounts of alcohol. 460
