SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Family entertainment center Boomers! is reopening its Vista location this weekend with health and safety modifications in place.The location on 1525 W. Vista Way was closed over three months ago due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but on Saturday, June 20, guests will be allowed to return.In a press release, officials said, “Boomers Vista will build upon its longstanding commitment to cleanliness and safety by implementing a series of measures following the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention and best practices within the amusement and attractions industries.”The following measures will be in place at the Vista facility:-- The center and mini golf course will operate under limited capacity-- Face coverings/masks required for all guests and staff members; kids under 3 won’t be required to wear face coverings, guests can remove masks when eating-- Employees will be we wearing personal protective equipment such as face shields and gloves-- Six feet of social distancing between parties are required; markers are posted throughout the property, including parking lots and entrances-- Temperature checks will be conducted for all guests and workers upon entry-- Guests and all staff are being asked to frequently wash hands-- Hand sanitizer stations will be located throughout the center-- Staff will carry out frequent sanitization of high-touch surfaces and rides and high-traffic locationsFacility General Manager Garrett Gross said, “The health and safety of our Guests and Team Members continues to be our number one priority as we work to welcome guests back to the Park. We will continue working with our local leaders, health experts and our industry colleagues to ensure best practices are in place at Boomers Vista.”Gross added, “We will serve our Guests safely and effectively by limiting capacity, verifying all entrants do not have a temperature at or above 100.4° Fahrenheit and are wearing proper facial coverings, and following the CDC’s recommendations on cleaning, social distancing and sanitizing.”The reopening of the Vista location comes nearly three weeks after the El Cajon and Kearny centers both closed down, with officials citing the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. 2259

It also is encouraging builders add more, smaller units in the same building, with less parking requirements. The county is exploring other options to reduce hurdles to development.That, however, is adding to some San Diego neighborhood group concerns about overdevelopment."My group and my associates just want to see it remain a nice place to live," said Tom Mullaney, who heads Uptown United. "We think we can do that with lots of new development and lots of new housing, but we can't do it if our city government is going to throw out the rule book."Additionally, the San Diego Housing Commission is now able to help finance apartment projects with units for middle income earners, according to a new state law."The challenge for us is how do we develop lower than market rate product for this new customer base without taking away from the customer base that we've traditionally served," Gentry said, noting turnover has dropped drastically at its 3,400 affordable apartments in San Diego.Mark Goldman, a real estate lecturer at San Diego State University, said it would take decades to really balance out supply and demand. But he said any assurances could ease risk for developers who may not want to get involved."You don't know when you're going to get that potential profit dollar," he said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Fixes are coming to elevators in a 14-story high-rise in downtown San Diego where senior tenants have faced challenges performing everyday tasks. But not soon enough for many.Some residents of the 65 and older Tower Apartments community have missed important appointments and had difficulties running errands, like trips to the grocery store, because of elevator outages.Some residents told 10News it's a long-running issue.RELATED: Seniors left with one elevator in 14-floor?San Diego buildingThe building is undergoing renovations - which residents say they appreciate. But they say the upgrades don't make it ok to shut down one of the two elevators and leave them with an elevator that they describe as unreliable at best. "Everybody is extremely upset," resident Carol Clark said. "And the thing is we don't seem to be getting many answers."One neighbor in a wheelchair broke down in tears during our interview. "It's people's safety," he said. "Not just mine, but everybody else."Shortly after running the story on 10News, management with the apartment complex sent a letter telling residents one of the elevators under renovations should be running by the end of June. After that, the other elevator that has had problems will be upgraded.Management said they will also schedule input meetings with residents for next week. 1372

  

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Firefighters were able to extinguish a brush fire they believe was sparked by an unknown group in City Heights Wednesday. According to San Diego Fire-Rescue, the blaze started in a canyon on the 3200 block of 42nd Street around 1:30 p.m.Crews were quickly able to stop the fire’s forward rate of spread while firefighters remained on scene to ensure there were no hot spots. No one was injured and no structures damaged, but the blaze did scorch an acre of land. Video sent to 10News shows residents in the area spraying water throughout their yards as flames crept up the nearby canyon. The metro arson strike team ruled the fire arson after witnesses said "juveniles were seen in the canyon before the fire started." 746
