(KGTV) — President Trump stood by his demands for border wall funding, following a meeting with Democratic leadership Friday, ensuring more debate into the weekend over .6 billion for his border wall to end the government shutdown.In a press conference, the president discussed his meeting, calling it productive and saying he believed progress with Democrats had been made. However, House Speaker told reporters outside the White House that, "We cannot resolve this until we open up government, and we made that very clear to the president."Here are six takeaways from President Trump's press conference:On the government shutdown...During his meeting with Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer, President Trump confirmed he said the government shutdown could last for months or even a year or longer."I don't think it will, but I am prepared," Trump told reporters. "I hope it doesn't go on even a few more days. It really could open very quickly."He added later that the government wouldn't reopen until the issue of border security and wall is solved. Trump added that California's leadership, specifically the governor position, "complains" and but wall construction was held anyway.He went on to say that the "brand new wall in San Diego" is "working really well."Continuing claims Mexico will pay for the wall...President Trump continued his claims that Mexico would pay for a border wall, saying the money saved in a renegotiated trade agreement between the U.S., Mexico, and Canada would net more money than the border wall would cost."We will be making billions and billions of dollars a year ... and that is paying for the wall many, many times over," Trump said. "What we save on [the USMCA] just with Mexico will pay for the wall many times over just in the period of a year, two years, three years. I view that as absolutely Mexico is paying for the wall."Bypassing Congress for the wall...When asked about granting himself emergency powers to construct the wall, President Trump said he had already considered it, but want to negotiate with lawmakers first."Yes, I have. And I can do it if I want," Trump told a reporter. "We can call a national emergency. I haven't done it. I may do it. I may do it. We can call a national emergency and build it very quickly. It's another way of doing it."On the border wall...President Trump said a team of people would work through the weekend to address border security, "the look" of the wall, and ports of entry. "I think they're going to be really successful. (KGTV) - The nephew of baseball star Alex Rodriguez was kidnapped and held for ransom in New York Thursday after a deal involving a Lamborghini, various media outlets reported.Rodriguez’ nephew, 29-year-old Norberto Susini, met two men at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square to sell them the vehicle, WABC reported. The men then demanded Susini return a ,000 deposit but he refused.WABC reported the men then held Susini against his will in a hotel room. They demanded ransom from Susini’s business partners, who called police.The men turned themselves in at 4 a.m, according to WABC.Susini is a player in independent baseball leagues. A 29-year-old man arrested after he crashed a car into security barriers outside the UK Houses of Parliament in what's being treated as a terrorist incident was identified by police Wednesday as a UK national originally from Sudan.The man has not yet been named by London's Metropolitan Police but the force said in a statement that it was "satisfied" it now knew his identity.Three people were injured when the suspect's car careened into cyclists and pedestrians during the Tuesday morning rush hour outside one of London's most iconic locations. (KGTV) - The California Justice Department does not verify the validity of hunting licenses for people under 21 who are applying to buy firearms, instead saying that’s the responsibility of individual gun shops. That information could shed light on how Poway synagogue shooting suspect John Earnest was able to buy his gun at 19 with an invalid hunting license. Earnest picked up the AR-15 style weapon from San Diego Guns on April 26, the day before the alleged attack. His hunting license was not going to become valid until July 1, 2019, according to state Fish and Wildlife. A woman who answered the phone at San Diego Guns Friday said the store would have no comment. Earlier this week, a different employee told 10News, “We did everything properly. We did everything we needed.” Senate Bill 1100 went into effect this year, requiring anyone under 21 buying a rifle to be law enforcement, military, or have a valid, state-issued hunting license. The Justice Department, however, says gun shops must verify the hunting license before they allow the customer to fill out the state online application. That application leads to a 10-day background check that checks a variety of categories - hunting licenses not listed. "Dealers are currently responsible for determining whether an exemption would apply under Senate Bill 1100 at the point of purchase. The 10-day waiting period, among other things, is to check if an individual is prohibited by state or federal law from owning or possessing a firearm," a DOJ spokesperson said in a statement. Earnest is accused of killing Chabad of Poway worshipper Lori Kaye and injuring three others in the April 27 attack. “He was not 21, so I knew from the beginning there is something fishy here with that gun,” said Israel Dahan, whose daughter Noya was hit by shrapnel and will soon have surgery on her upper cheek. “To be honest with you, what’s the difference? This guy is a killer, it doesn’t matter if he’s going to buy it legally or illegally." Gun shops found violating the rule would have limited time to correct any violation, which could include getting the firearm back.
