Former prisoners are helping former prisoners break in to college courses.  The Urban Scholars Union is a relatively new organization created by ex-cons for ex-cons looking to better themselves through education. USU’s President Cesar Garcia said they started 18 months ago at San Diego City College to help “justice impacted” students succeed. “[We want to] empower them and motivate them to be productive members of society,” said Garcia. “We’re not monsters that they make us out to feel and make us out to be,” said San Diego City College student Ryan Rising. “We’re humans that made poor choices.” Rising spent 15 years behind bars for carjacking and attempted extortion but will matriculate to Cal Berkley on a scholarship after earning his Associate’s at City.“I’m super proud of myself,” he said. Garcia, who served seven years for a list of crimes, said the USU provides a space for former prisoners to get help, guidance, and support. The organization recently expanded to Southwestern College and is working on helping students at Mesa and Grossmont Colleges. USU also recently received its largest donation to date.  Current prisoners at Donovan Correctional in Otay Mesa donated ,000 to USU for scholarships and grants for former prisoners. “It just goes to show you how we do look out for each other,” said Garcia. “We just need go out and advocate to erase all these stigmas,” said Rising. 1470

Former President Barack Obama and former Vice President Joe Biden were reunited Monday, when they went out for lunch at a Washington, DC, bakery.Obama and Biden spent about 45 minutes at Dog Tag Bakery in Georgetown. The bakery runs a fellowship program, now in its eighth class, that acts as a "living business school" for veterans, military spouses and military caregivers, Dog Tag CEO Meghan Ogilvie told COVER/LINE. Professors from Georgetown University teach fellows, who can earn a certificate of business administration from Georgetown University's School of Continuing Studies.Ogilvie said she found out about six minutes before Obama and Biden arrived that they were coming. She gathered the current 13 fellows and said they would have a team meeting and surprised them when the 44th President of the United States and his Veep walked in.Obama and Biden met the fellows, took selfies with them and talked to them about their future business plans for about 20 to 30 minutes. They also grabbed a bite to eat.If it wasn't for the fact they were once leaders of the free world, "it would seem like two friends coming together to have lunch," Ogilvie said.They ordered ham and gruyère sandwiches. FREDERICK, Colorado – The bodies of Chris Watts’ two young daughters were found inside oil and gas tanks that “were mostly full,” several high-ranking sources tell Scripps' Denver affiliate KMGH-TV.The high ranking sources said Thursday evening they believe Watts placed the bodies of 4-year-old Bella and 3-year-old Celeste in the oil and gas tanks owned by Anadarko in order to hide the bodies and conceal the smell.Frederick police officials said in a 6:30 p.m. update Thursday that the bodies of the two young girls were found in close proximity to the other body whom officers strongly believe is Shanann Watts. Her body was found on property owned by Anadarko Petroleum earlier Thursday. Two law enforcement sources said Watts had confessed to killing his wife and daughters. For those wondering if “Jeopardy!” would go on after Alex Trebek’s death, Jeopardy producers confirmed on Monday that the show must go on.Jeopardy executive producer Mike Richards released a statement on Monday saying the show would resume production on November 30. The show will resume with Ken Jennings, a former contestant who was deemed the “Greatest of All Time” in January, as the first to guest host following Trebek’s death. Other guest hosts will be announced in the future.Jennings joined the program at the start of the current season as a consulting producer. Before winning the “Greatest of All Time” series in January, Jennings set a still-standing record of 74 wins in a row in 2004.“Alex believed in the importance of Jeopardy! and always said that he wanted the show to go on after him,” said Richards. “We will honor Alex’s legacy by continuing to produce the game he loved with smart contestants and challenging clues.
