The end of net neutrality is now scheduled for next month.The Federal Communications Commission said in a notice filed Thursday that new rules repealing the net neutrality protections are set to take effect 30 days from this Friday, or June 11."Now, on June 11, these unnecessary and harmful internet regulations will be repealed and the bipartisan, light-touch approach that served the online world well for nearly 20 years will be restored," Ajit Pai, chairman of the FCC, said in a statement Thursday.The Republican-led FCC voted along party lines in December to repeal the Obama-era net neutrality rules, which were intended to prevent internet providers from blocking, speeding up, or slowing down access to specific online services.The FCC previously said that parts of the repeal order would take effect on April 23. The first large head-to-head comparison of two opioid addiction medications found that, although they were equally effective in getting people off of high levels of opioids, users had a significantly more difficult time starting a regimen of naltrexone, compared with buprenorphine.Buprenorphine is commonly known by the the brand name Suboxone, and naltrexone is sold under the brand name Vivitrol.The study, published Tuesday in the Lancet, looked at 570 patients with opioid addiction at eight inpatient treatment centers across the country for 24 weeks. Half of the group was assigned to naltrexone and the other half to bupenorphine.Six percent of those enlisted to use buprenorphine were unable to start their treatment, whereas 28% of those assigned to naltrexone dropped out before starting the therapy. 824

The city manager for Alameda, California, said a formal investigation is underway following the arrest of a man dancing in a street as part of his exercise routine.The man, Mali Watkins, was charged with resisting arrest. Why he was arrested in the first place is unclear.On May 23, two officers from Alameda Police approached the man after police received a report that a man was dancing in the street. When police arrived, they discovered Mali dancing in the street.When asked why he was dancing, Mali stated it was part of his exercise routine.After Mali began to walk away, videos show officers grabbing Mali by the wrist and detaining him. Mali was told if he resisted, he would be charged with resisting arrest, which is what happened.The city of Alameda said that the man is a resident of the city and is African American.“At this time, I do not know the reasons why the initial officers approached the call the way they did. I am hopeful that an investigation will provide better understanding to that question,” City Manager Eric Levitt said.In the last few days, the city has released body warn camera footage from the incident, in addition to a call into the police’s non-emergency line. The Department of Justice this week is sending a strong message to American cities: if you can't stop crime, federal agents may be on the way.On Wednesday, Attorney General William Barr announced the launch of "Operation Legend" — named after a 4-year-old boy, LeGend Taliferrom, who was shot and killed while he was sleeping in Kansas City last month.Kansas City is one of several American cities dealing with an uptick in crime. According to the Department of Justice, violent crime is up 40% since last year, with at least 100 murders so far this year.The New York Times recently reported the top 25 largest American cities had seen a 16% increase in murders in recent months.What is "Operation Legend?"The mission will send around 100 FBI, ATF and DEA agents, as well as some U.S. Marshals, to Kansas City to aid in crime prevention.Agents are not expected to assume command of active investigations but rather serve as a deterrent to violent crime."Operation Legend will combine federal and local resources to combat the disturbing uptick in violence by surging federal agents and other federal assets into cities like Kansas City, a city currently experiencing its worst homicide rate in its history," Barr said in a statement.Kansas City will not likely be the last place federal agents go.
