LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville, Kentucky, has banned the use of controversial "no-knock" warrants and named the new ordinance for Breonna Taylor.Taylor was fatally shot by Louisville officers who burst into her home in March. Her death, along with the deaths of Ahmaud Arbery and George Floyd, have sparked a largely peaceful protest movement across the country, calling for significant changes in policing and an end to systemic racism.Louisville Metro Council unanimously voted Thursday night to ban the controversial warrants after days of protests and calls for reform. According to NPR, the law also requires police to wear body cameras when serving warrants and turn them on five minutes before entering a person's home.Taylor was killed on March 13 when police served a no-knock warrant on her home as part of a narcotics investigation. MILAN (AP) — The Mount Etna observatory says lava and ash are spewing from a new fracture on the active Sicilian volcano amid an unusually high level of seismic activity.The Etna observatory said a swarm of 130 tremors have been recorded by Monday midday, the most powerful registering a magnitude of 4.0. It reported lava flows from the volcano and said a new fracture had opened near its southeast crater.The owner of a refuge on the volcano says hikers are being brought down from higher elevations to 1,900 meters (6,230 feet) for their safety. But there are no reports of injuries, and so far the spewing ash was not causing disruptions to residents of nearby towns and cities.Etna, the largest of Italy's three active volcanoes, has been particularly active since July. 783

Dr. Yun says the nation's housing market has even surpassed pre-pandemic sales. He attributes a lot of that to low mortgage rates and people realizing that working from home means they need more room.“Because of the strong demand for housing and we have a shortage of homes in the marketplace, so whatever home builders build, they can find a buyer so they build more homes. But one of the constraints is lack of construction workers along with the material cost that goes into construction, such as lumber,” says Dr. Yun, who also pointed out the country's underproduction.“Home builders have been producing below historical average for 10 straight years and the cumulative effect of underproduction is we don’t have sufficient inventory and that is the reason why home prices are rising and we need to build more homes to get into balance,” added Dr. Yun.Which is why, Laura Gonzalez, associate professor of Finance at California State University Long Beach, says we're experiencing a supply and demand situation when it comes to wood.“We just don’t have enough wood,” Gonzalez said. “It's difficult to make it ready and then transport it because of the pandemic. It's not that the industry is changing its just that we have had a shift both in supply and demand.”Gonzalez also says it's the basic equation of high demand meaning lower supply, which sends prices up and stocks soaring. Then there's the factor of where our wood comes from. She says, “We import some of our lumber from Canada both from lumber and other products. If we depend on other nations, we are more susceptible to changes in supply.”So, what comes next?“The issue of supply versus demand is going to correct in two years, but the opportunities for climate finance are ongoing that is not going to finish,” Gonzalez said.Which is why Dr. Yun says home prices will hold firm, and if you're waiting for a ‘burst’ or for prices to decrease, you might be waiting a while.“In future years, mortgage rate will certainly rise and that will choke off some of the demand, but hopefully we have adequate supply so we have a more balanced market condition where prices rise in manageable, 3-4% each year and people will feel comfortable at that rate of price appreciation,” says Dr. Yun.Dr. Yun recommends if you want or need to buy, don't overstretch your budget as the competition is fierce out there. MAPLE HEIGHTS, Ohio — Maple Heights Mayor Annette Blackwell believes northeast Ohio's shortage of affordable housing is having a tragic impact on the academic development of children. Blackwell told WEWS the affordable housing shortage is causing too many families to move from school district to school district and, in some cases, multiple moves are made in one school year.Blackwell said housing insecurity is playing a major factor in hindering the education of children, especially children from African-American families living in Cleveland and the inner-ring suburbs."It is an issue here in northeast Ohio, it is an issue here in the school district in Maple Heights," Blackwell said. "These children have to deal with the stress when they see their parents negotiating with the landlord, they see mom's rejection, they are part of that rejection when the application gets turned down, or the eviction notice comes.""All of these things add to the heightened sense of anxiety and stress. It's overwhelming on a daily basis."Blackwell pointed to a Harvard Medical School?study indicating that multiple moves contribute to a critical loss of learning.Blackwell said too many families simply can't afford to find good, stable housing."They make between and an hour, they have three kids, they have a car they're trying to maintain and they have to work two jobs to do that," Blackwell said.Professor Ronnie Dunn, Cleveland State University chief diversity and inclusion officer, told WEWS the toxic stress caused by multiple moves and a lack of affordable places to live are hurting young children and families more and more."In Cleveland, we average about 11,000 evictions annually," Dunn said.
