MADRID, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang said here on Tuesday that China is likely to buy more Spanish government bonds to help the country deal with market concerns about its solvency.Li made the remarks during a meeting with Spanish Second Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Elena Salgado.Li noted that the Spanish government has taken a series of measures to fight the global financial crisis, which will help lift the country out of its severest woes and pave the way for sound economic development in the long run."We believe Spain, with its government and people working together, will surely overcome current economic and fiscal difficulties," he said.Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang (L) shakes hands with Spain's Second Deputy Prime Minister Elena Salgado, in Madrid, Spain, Jan. 4, 2011. Li Keqiang arrived here Tuesday at the start of a three-nation tour to Europe. Li said that China, as a long-term and responsible player in the Spanish government bonds market, has not reduced its holdings, and even increased its buying activities amid European debt concerns."We will buy more (Spanish government bonds) depending on market conditions," he said.The Chinese leader arrived in Madrid earlier in the day, kicking off a three-day official visit to Spain.Spain is the first leg of his three-nation European tour, which will also take him to Germany and Britain.

BEIJING, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- Foreign direct investment (FDI) into China hit a record 105.74 billion U.S. dollars last year, up 17.4 percent year on year, the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) announced Tuesday.In December alone, China attracted 14.03 billion U.S. dollars of FDI, up 15.6 percent year on year, making it the 17th consecutive month of FDI growth since August 2009.The rapid FDI growth could be attributed to robust development in the service sector and the country's central and western regions, said MOC spokesman Yao Jian.FDI in the service sector rose 28.6 percent last year and that in central and western regions climbed 27.6 percent year on year, Yao said.

  

BEIJING, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) - Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang said that China will firmly embrace green and low-carbon development ideals and step up efforts in saving resources and protecting the ecological environment.China will strive to transform its economic growth model in a bid to build an energy-saving and environmentally-friendly society, Li said Wednesday at the annual meeting of the Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development.He said China will promote development of the emerging industries of strategic importance, hi-tech industries and modern service industries, conduct technological innovation on traditional industries and continue efforts in eliminating backward production capacities to maintain a sustainable development.Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang (C), also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and head of China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED), attends the opening ceremony of the 2010 Annual General Meeting of the CCICED in Beijing, capital of China, Nov. 10, 2010. UNITED NATIONS, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- China's UN Ambassador Li Baodong on Tuesday expressed hope for a "peaceful, free, transparent and fair" referendum to be held in south Sudan early next year."The south Sudan referendum is a key step in the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), but it is not an end in itself," Li told a high-level meeting of the UN Security Council here."We hope that the referendum will be held in a peaceful, free, transparent and fair manner in accordance with the CPA and reflect the will of the Sudanese people, and that the outcome of the referendum will be respected by all parties."The ambassador urged the northern and southern Sudan to "try their utmost to expedite the preparations for the referendum," and called on the international community to create favorable conditions for the referendum, "but not to prejudge its outcome.""Neither party must take unilateral actions," he stressed. " Whatever the outcome of the referendum, it is necessary to ensure the overall peace and stability of Sudan and the whole region."The Chinese envoy also expressed concern about "the serious lacking behind of the political process" in Darfur, which poses the "most prominent challenge" for the settlement of the question of Darfur.He urged those Darfur parties that have yet to join the political process to do so immediately and without conditions.Li announced that the Chinese government has decided to make an additional donation of 500,000 U.S. dollars to the UN Trust Fund for the political process in Darfur.
