SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police are searching for a man who reportedly tried to stop a woman from leaving a locker room at a clinical training facility.According to police, the man entered the women’s locker room at the UCSD Clinical Training Facility around 11:15 a.m. on August 20.Police say the man walked in as the victim was using the restroom. The woman tried to leave, but the suspect blocked her, asking “don’t you want this,” gesturing to his body, police say.The man then left the bathroom before walking back inside and blocking the victim’s exit once again. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego City Council President Pro Tem Barbara Bry is calling for an audit of a city-leased building repeatedly shuttered over asbestos.The building at 101 Ash Street was closed Saturday and city employees were relocated for "the next few weeks" over asbestos violations, Bry said in a memo. Bry added that she received an update on June 17, 2019 that the project at the location remained "on schedule and within budget" after she requested an update 10 days prior."It is apparent that 101 Ash Street is neither on-time nor on-budget. According to the county, such activities that will be allowed include sunbathing and relaxing with towels and chairs. Supervisor Greg Cox noted that activities like football and volleyball will not be allowed. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diegans are continuing to push to get through to the state agency that handles unemployment claims, as bills come due.The region's unemployment rate is now a record 15%, as 195,000 people lost their jobs in April. Meanwhile, the Employment Development Department continues to be inundated with people trying call. The agency plans to add 1,800 temporary full-time and hourly workers over the coming weeks to handle the influx."It would be so helpful if I could just reach out to someone," said Ashley Porter, of El Cajon, who can't get through to ask why she has not received unemployment. "It's been very stressful for me."Porter still has a job at a medical call center, but had to reduce her hours to take care of her six-year-old daughter, Adalynn, whose school closed. The EDD's website says people who take that step may be eligible for jobless benefits, but that it's on a case-by-case basis and involves a phone interview.Porter says she never got that phone call, but what did arrive was a letter that she is eligible for up to 8 per week. But when she goes online to claim benefits, she gets an error message that reads - benefits exceeded. Her calls and emails to EDD are going unanswered. "I just feel so low, I just feel like I've worked so long and I've worked so hard that I mean, now that this has happened, can I just get a little assistance?" said Porter, who says her employer has not allowed her position to work from home. A spokesperson for the EDD expressed empathy for Porter's situation, but declined to discuss specifics. The spokesperson said, however, that the benefits exceeded message probably means the claimant makes too much to get benefits.State law says workers with reduced hours are eligible for unemployment if 75% of their reduced earnings comes out to less than what their weekly unemployment check would be. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County leaders Monday announced proposals that would crack down on vaping amid vaping-related illness and death throughout the U.S. At the Monday news conference, County Supervisors Dianne Jacob and Nathan Fletcher proposed a ban on the sale and distribution of flavored tobacco products and e-cigarettes. The recommendations will come to go to the board on October 15 and, if the board follows up with approval, the rules would take effect in the county’s unincorporated area. “Vaping-related illnesses are a grave concern and we must take local action to address this fast-growing public health crisis,” said Jacob, chairwoman of the Board of Supervisors.“Teenagers and young adults have been the hardest hit, and we must stand up to vaping manufacturers that are preying on them for profit.”So far across the U.S., there have been more than 800 confirmed illnesses tied to vaping and 13 deaths. The news conference comes after health officials around the country advise people to refrain from vaping as investigations into the cause of the illnesses and deaths continue. “E-cigarettes, and in particular the flavored products, are erasing years of progress in reducing teens’ use of tobacco and nicotine,” said Supervisor Fletcher.In San Diego County, there have been 22 confirmed probable vaping-related illness cases.
