SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector’s five branches will be shut down “in an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus.”The decision to close the branches was made under guidance of public health officials. The closure order is effective July 6.Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister said, “Our downtown branch will remain open July 1 and 2, but starting Monday, we will close our public-facing counters as a precautionary measure, based on social distancing recommendations from local officials.”The four other branches -- Kearny Mesa, San Marcos, Chula Vista, and Santee -- have been closed to the public since March and will remain closed.The downtown branch on 1600 Pacific Highway had just reopened on June 15, with modifications in place, after being closed in March.Customers can still complete business via the SDTTC.com website or without even visiting the office at all. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego Food Bank on Thursday selected 35 nonprofit organizations around the county with the goal of giving them the food and supplies they need to continue helping families in their area.La Maestra Community Health Center provides health and support services to families from the South Bay to East County. Many of those they serve come from low-income households.Before the COVID-19 pandemic, they helped about 300 families a week. Since then, that number has doubled, and they’re now feeding close to 600 families a week.At a news conference with mayors from San Diego, Chula Vista, and Escondido, the San Diego Food Bank announced the kickoff of their “Super Pantries” program, where they have partnered with 35 pre-selected organizations.Instead of holding the mass distribution food events that they’ve done in the past, the Food Bank will now focus on providing these organizations with food and supplies.San Diego Food Bank President/CEO James Floros said, “Now with the grass roots approach, they can go into their communities and get what they need.”Each organization will also get a check for ,000. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Three years after a gunman opened fire on a Las Vegas country concert and the memories are still fresh for survivors. This year marks a few important milestones for families and survivors.A settlement announced one day before the three-year anniversary, meaning 0 million will go to victims and families.Also, Nevada’s Governor Steve Sisolak added two more to the list of people who died as a result of the shooting. She lost her eye and now three years later, has had seven surgeries and now has a prosthetic eye. She said because of the chaos of physically healing the past few years, this is the first anniversary where she’s been able to grieve more.“I was going through so many surgeries and having so much at the time of the first and second that it kind of kept my mind so busy and so focused on that, and I tried so hard not to feel but this year I feel it a lot more,” said Romo.Doctors thought Romo would lose her sight and speech, but she defied those odds. There is still a long road to recovery for her, but she’s thankful for the life she’s been blessed with. So when my friends said hey let’s go to the movies tonight, let’s go bowling, it was like I automatically knew I couldn’t do that. I knew I couldn’t be in that closed place,” said Huizar.Huizar added that the news of the settlement has added a little bit of closure this year.
