They have to do so much on their own," said 11-year-old Cartier Carey.Cartier is the leader of the "Carti Pack" and CEO of his lemonade stand, one unlike any other."We sell lemonade, chips, candy - all types of stuff that people want, and it's not expensive," he said.Each dollar spent towards a cup of the summertime drink and goodies on the side goes towards buying diapers for local families in need."The diapers are for mothers or anyone that has babies," Cartier said.It's an unusual business model, but one that's working."There's a shortage of Pampers and wipes in the stores because of the pandemic, so this couldn't have come at a better time," said Anthony Carey, Cartier's dad.A rising sixth-grader like Cartier and his friends could be out playing sports or riding bikes, but instead, they're helping single mothers in the community."There are a lot of grown-ups out there not doing what we're doing," Cartier said."As a parent, it makes me feel spectacular," Anthony said.This lemonade stand isn't a first for Cartier. EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) – Firefighters Tuesday fought a blaze that burned just feet away from homes in El Cajon. According to crews, the fire broke out after 1 p.m. near Main Street and Travelodge Drive. Crews could be seen fighting the blaze from atop a hill in an effort to prevent flames from reaching nearby homes.Firefighters say, at one point, flames came within 20 feet of nearby homes. Heartland Fire, Viejas and Cal Fire all responded to the blaze along with a helicopter crew. The fire started as temperatures rose and humidity plummeted.  Abortion rates in the United States have dropped to their lowest level in 10 years, according to a report released Wednesday by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.From 2006 to 2015, the year of the latest completed survey, reported abortions from participating areas fell 24%, from 842,855 to 638,169.Going back to 1969, the CDC has completed its "abortion surveillance" to measure the number and characteristics of women who obtain legal abortions. Requests for information go out to the central health agencies in all 50 states, plus Washington and New York City. The most recent surveillance included voluntary abortion data from 49 areas, the exceptions being California, Maryland and New Hampshire.What researchers found was a striking decrease from where abortion rates were a decade ago. In addition to the steep drop in the number of reported abortions, the rates fell in two other categories. The number of abortions among women 15-44 went down 26%, from 15.9 to 11.8 abortions per 1,000 women. And the number of abortions per 1,000 live births went down by 19%, from 233 to 188.Compared with the previous year, 2014, there was a 2% decrease in abortions across the three measures.Because reporting is voluntary and requirements for reporting vary across the country, the CDC acknowledges that the findings have limitations.
