SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) - After a heart attack nearly killed him at age 46, Adam Bavario is now thanking his doctors, and his dog.For 27 years Bavario was a medic and police officer in Los Angeles. He says while he loved the job it caused a lot of added stress on him physically and mentally. During his 30's Bavario started having health issues and chest pains, but every time doctors ran tests they couldn't find anything wrong.The misdiagnosis almost killed him five months ago. "I knew I was having a heart attack. I went to grab my phone and passed out on the floor," said Bavario.He was suffering one of the deadliest heart attacks, known as the widow maker. "One of his major arteries was 100 percent blocked, and if that doesn’t get opened in time or quickly, there's a potential for something catastrophic," said Dr. Karim El-Sherief, an Interventional Cardiologist at Tri-City Medical Center.While unconscious, Bavario's sleeping dog Roxy awoke and sensed he was in trouble, licking and nudging him until he woke up. “The ironic thing about Roxy is Roxy is completely deaf from birth, she had enough awareness to come in and get me up," said Bavario.He was able to call 911 and then first responders from the San Marcos Fire Department got Bavario to Tri-City Medical Center in minutes. Dr. El-Sherief and his team were able to treat Bavario in record time for the hospital, 27 minutes. Now Bavario is using his free time to advocate for cardiac awareness. "What I can tell you is get checked out, do your routines," Bavario says.Dr. El-Sherief says with proper screenings along with diet and exercise, these heart attacks can be prevented. SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — A father and his two children helped rescue a man who was stranded in the Santa Fe National Forest for 14 days.John Utsey launched an unexpected two-day rescue mission Saturday after hearing a call for help while hiking with his kids toward the Santa Fe Baldy.Utsey gave the man food and water before hiking back to the trailhead to call 911.Santa Fe firefighters arrived within the hour, but called off the unsuccessful search after eight hours.Utsey then returned to the spot Sunday, called 911 again and led crews to the man.Once the man was located, the Santa Fe Fire Department says its crews built a fire to bring up his body temperature, which was dangerously low. They also fed and gave him water.The department says the man suffered from chronic back pain, injured his back while hiking and couldn’t stand or walk.The man told first responders that his gear stolen and ended up getting lost and disoriented.The man is now recovering at a local hospital. 992

According to a statement sent to 10News by the San Marcos Unified School District, Carrie Geldard, Principal of Discovery Elementary died over the weekend. The cause wasn’t immediately clear. “She served the SMUSD community in a variety of capacities over the last 22 years including teacher, assistant principal and principal. Carrie was fiercely passionate about developing the whole child, while also emphasizing literacy and ensuring that every student was successful and prepared for the future of their dreams,” the district said in part. In response to the death, the district says crisis response teams were sent to support students and staff. “We extend our deepest sympathies to Carrie’s family, the Discovery Elementary community and the San Marcos Unified School District community,” the district continued. 946

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Airbnb announced Thursday that it’s banning all parties and events at the listings on its website to comply with limits on gatherings during the coronavirus pandemic.The San Francisco-based company says the party ban applies to all future bookings on Airbnb and it will remain in effect indefinitely until further notice.Additionally, Airbnb says the occupancy at its listings will be capped at 16 people. Though, the company says it’s considering a potential exception process for specialty and traditional hospitality venues, like boutique hotels.“We also understand that 16 is not a magic number, and issues can occur with groups of any size,” wrote the company. “To be clear, we are not sanctioning smaller gatherings with this policy and all community members are expected to comply with local health restrictions on gatherings. We are capping guests at 16 in these large properties as one step amongst several, all designed to mitigate any efforts to misuse an Airbnb for a party.”Airbnb says guests will be informed about its party rules and told that they may be “legally pursued” by the company if they violate the policy.Unauthorized parties have actually always been prohibited at Airbnb listings and the company says 73% of its listings already ban them in their house rules.Over the last year or two, Airbnb has begun imposing stricter limits, starting with a global ban on “party houses,” or listings that create persistent neighborhood nuisance. And when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, a new policy was introduced that required all users to adhere to local coronavirus mandates.“However, in many large jurisdictions, public health mandates on gatherings have changed – and in some places swung back and forth in response to the changing rates of COVID cases – as have regulations on bars, clubs and pubs,” wrote Airbnb. “Some have chosen to take bar and club behavior to homes, sometimes rented through our platform. We think such conduct is incredibly irresponsible – we do not want that type of business, and anyone engaged in or allowing that behavior does not belong on our platform.”Based on these developments, the company says instituting a global ban on parties and events is in the best interest of public health. 2265
