Robert Grays was having the game of his life on Saturday as his Midwestern State University squad was beating Texas A&M-Kingsville 35-13. The 19-year-old sophomore had matched a career-high with seven tackles, with his team about to improve to 2-0 on the season. Saturday ended up being Grays' final game.  With 3:24 remaining in the fourth quarter, Grays went in for a tackle, severely injuring his neck. After being transported to Houston for treatment, Grays died on Tuesday from the injury. Grays was the squad's starting cornerback, and also played on special teams. Gavin Newsom eased the sentences or criminal histories of nearly three dozen current or former felons on Tuesday.They include 10 pardons intended to aid immigrants who face the possibility of deportation.One of the 10 is currently in a federal immigration detention facility. The 10 were among 22 pardons, 13 commutations and four medical reprieves, the last a category prompted by the coronavirus pandemic.The state corrections secretary and a federal court-appointed official recommended the medical risk clemency review.They are in addition to thousands of other earlier releases intended to free space within the state's prison system to slow the virus' spread. 715

RICHMOND, Ind. — Nearly 77 years after a Marine from Indiana was killed in the South Pacific during World War II his remains will return to his hometown on Thursday.Marine Corps Pfc. Louis Wiesehan Jr., 20, of Richmond, was a member of Company F, 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, which landed against stiff Japanese resistance on the small island of Betio in the Tarawa Atoll of the Gilbert Islands in November 1943, according to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency.Over several days of intense fighting, approximately 1,000 Marines and Sailors were killed and more than 2,000 wounded. The Japanese were virtually annihilated, the DPAA said. Wiesehan was killed on the second day of the battle, Nov. 21, 1943. His remains were reportedly buried in Division Cemetery on Betio Island.According to the DPAA, the 604th Quartermaster Graves Registration Company centralized all of the American remains found on Tarawa at Lone Palm Cemetery in 1946 for later repatriation, however, almost half of the known casualties were never found. No recovered remains could be associated with Wiesehan so in Oct. 1949, a Board of Review declared him "non-recoverable."In 2014, History Flight Inc., a nonprofit organization, located Cemetery 27. Excavations at the site uncovered multiple sets of remains which were turned over to DPAA in 2015. DPAA said Wiesehan's remains were identified through anthropological analysis as well as material evidence. Scientists from the Armed Forces Medical Examiner System used mitochondrial DNA analysis.Wiesehan's remains were accounted for on Sept. 23, 2019.The Greenfield Police Department posted on Facebook that Wiesehan's remains will be passing through Greenfield on Thursday, between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. on their way from the Indianapolis International Airport to Richmond. (AP) — California's attorney general is accusing a car dealership of false advertising and lying on loan documents to boost the company's profits at the expense of its mostly low-income customers.Attorney General Xavier Becerra sued Paul Blanco's Good Car Company on Monday.Becerra said the company's prolific TV and radio ads would boast about 2% interest rates and approving people for loans over the phone. But Becerra said those were lies designed to lure customers to the dealership. Once people came, Becerra said the company would then lie about their incomes and the value of the vehicles to convince lenders to approve the loans.Representatives from the dealership did not respond to a request for comment.
