SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Underused land owned by San Diego's Metropolitan Transit Service could help address the region's need for affordable housing — though not entirely.That's according to a new report by the think-tank Circulate San Diego, which suggests nearly 60 acres of MTS-owned land, including parking lots and structures, could better serve the community as new homes."Empty and underutilized parking lots are a stark and visible demonstration of public lands being underutilized. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - UC San Diego Health received its first batch of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine Tuesday, and the health care provider expects another shipment next week.“We expect next week to perhaps get 5,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine,” said Dr. Charles Daniels, Chief Pharmacy Officer at UC San Diego Health. Daniels added they could receive the shipment as soon as Monday or Tuesday, but no date has been finalized.The Moderna vaccine is still awaiting emergency use authorization from the FDA, which it could receive this week. Pfizer’s vaccine was the first to get such approval last week.UC San Diego received close to 3,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine Tuesday and plans to begin administering shots to its highest risk health care workers at its Hillcrest and La Jolla locations Wednesday morning.On Tuesday, Gov. Gavin Newsom said California was expected to get 393,000 more doses of the Pfizer vaccine next week, on top of the 327,000 it received this week. Newsom said California is also slated to receive 672,000 doses of Moderna’s vaccine by the end of the month.San Diego County has not given an estimated timeline to receive the Moderna vaccine or how large a shipment it expects.UC San Diego Health was part of the Moderna trial, but Dr. Daniels says it is not the reason for their access to the vaccine. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - With the cost of living going up in San Diego, a lot of people are looking for ways to make extra cash. A new startup in San Diego called Bounce wants to help drivers maximize their income. "The drivers are the most important element," said CEO Mark Potter. Potter transformed the front of his law office into the startup space. He is a longtime fan of rideshare. "Before there was rideshare, I was hiring people off craigslist to give me rides," Potter said.His model for this new company is to focus on the driver and give them more incentives to want to stay and work for the company. "Our drivers are owners. They earn ownership in our company through stock options," said Potter. This stake in the company is one of the main reasons Pamela Bernier signed on to be a driver. Bernier said, "Working my own hours, calling my own shots, still enjoying the income and the people at the same time."Bounce also has a repeat customer option. Riders have the freedom to create a list and request their favorite drivers. They also have the luxury to arrange future rides in advance.  According to the company, this provides a safer environment for both the rider and driver and also gives the driver a more consistent cash flow. "I could bounce you here, I can bounce you there, I bounce you home, where you wanna bounce let's go," said Bernier. Uber and Lyft are two other companies dominating the rideshare space. According to Lyft, 68% of drivers are primary earners of their household, and so far in 2018, Lyft passengers also spent an additional million on local businesses in town. According to Uber, rideshare and delivery drivers in California took home more than .97 billion in gross revenue for 2017. Bounce is set for a September launch, and the company is currently interviewing drivers. They require in-person interviews and background checks for each driver. They are also in the process of putting in a panic button option in the app for riders to feel safer during their ride. "We envision is that our company will be very successful with loyal drivers that put Bounce first. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Two San Diego County breweries were among the fastest growing craft breweries in the country in 2017, according to the Brewers Association.Novo Brazil Brewing Co. in Chula Vista and Bay City Brewing Co. in San Diego both made the list. The list includes breweries across 25 states. Novo was ranked as the 8th and Bay City 28th fastest-growing small breweries.California lays claim to the speediest growth with several breweries listed, according to the association.Median growth for the top 50 fastest-growing breweries between 2016 and 2017 was 216 percent, according to the Brewers Association.
