(KGTV) - A series of unfortunate events may have led to an albino red-tailed boa constrictor named "Lemony Snicket" disappearing from a North County museum. Officials with the EcoVivarium children's museum in Escondido, California believe Lemony disappeared on April 29 during a tour of the museum's Arthropod Jungle. During the tour, staff took Lemony out of its cage to show guests, before returning it to its enclosure and locking the gate.Unfortunately, a security camera facing Lemony's enclosure was damaged that same day and did not capture what could have happened.Staff said they fear the snake may have been stolen. They said a man in his 20s left the tour group and never returned shortly before the snake disappeared."We are all heartbroken, and just want him safely returned, no questions asked," the museum said of Facebook. The snake was rescued four-and-a-half years ago in San Diego from an owner who had neglected it.Lemony is about 7-feet long, and yellow and orange, and has a scar on its face.Anyone with any information as to the snake's whereabouts is asked to call EcoVivarium at 760-975-9690.The situation is similar to another missing reptile case recently in North San Diego County."Bubbles" the monitor lizard slinked away from Mike's Pets in Spring Valley in March. Mike Estevez, of the store, said getting the word out was key in Bubbles' return."It really helped a lot," Estevez said. ENGLEWOOD, Colo -- Englewood School District confirmed it is investigating a "fight club" after a video on social media from one of its middle schools made its way into the public light. Scripps station KMGH in Denver received a video of two students at Englewood Middle School fighting, and that parent is concerned her child might be next. According to that parent, who wishes to remain anonymous, there are "fight club social media pages" with videos from fights at Englewood Middle School. One of those videos was recorded on April 5. The video shows one student assaulting another, according to officials at Englewood Schools. The district said the student responsible is now facing disciplinary and legal action. Englewood Police Department sent a statement that one girl was issued a summons for assault. KMGH was not able to find the social media pages, but the district confirmed it is aware of the social media groups and are trying to find those who are responsible for those pages to hold them accountable. The mother who contacted KMGH said through text that those social media pages spread that her child may be the next target and she's "petrified to send her back to school." The district said it will be increasing its security presence at the Englewood Campus as a result.  1349

ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) - City leaders in Encinitas plan to ban gas-powered leaf blowers to help curb the effects of climate change.They're hosting a public meeting about the ban Monday night, May 13, at 6 p.m. at the Encinitas Community Center (1140 Oakcrest Park Drive).The ban is part of the City's bigger Climate Action Plan, which the City Council approved in January of 2018. It calls for a 41 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 when compared to 2012 baseline levels.The plan says removing emissions from gas-powered leaf blowers would remove 142 Metric Tons of CO2 by 2030. That's the equivalent of taking roughly 25 cars off the road.While it's not a huge improvement, people in Encinitas say every small step will help."I think they ought to be eliminated everywhere," says David Winkler, who goes to Encinitas to meet friends. "The less reliance on fossil fuels, the better.""People come from all over the world here, so we should make it as clean and beautiful as we can," says Encinitas resident Linda, who declined to give her last name. "Anything we can do to lessen pollution is always a good thing."Other North County cities already have bans in place. Solana Beach and Del Mar both prohibit the use of gas-powered leaf blowers.City leaders in Encinitas say their rule is different because it bases the ban on environmental concerns, rather than noise pollution.The ban only covers two-stroke leaf blowers. Other gas-powered tools like weed whackers and chain saws will still be allowed.If the ban is approved, it will take effect immediately for all city-run operations. After three months, any business licensed to operate in Encinitas will have to comply. ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) - A brush fire broke out in Escondido’s Kit Carson Park Friday, sending a plume of smoke above the area. The flames started just before noon in a riverbed of the park at 3333 Bear Valley Parkway near Westfield North County mall, Escondido Fire reported. At least 10 engines and a firefighting helicopter responded to the scene to put out the fire in brush and trees. No structures were threatened because winds were blowing the flames away from nearby homes.By 2 p.m., the fire's forward rate of progress was stopped with two acres burned and 80 percent containment.San Pasqual High and LR Green elementary schools were briefly put on lockdown to safely keep students inside during the firefighting efforts.The North County Transit District rerouted its BREEZE route 350 to the mall because police and fire personnel blocked its route for firefighting efforts.
