MoviePass CEO Mitch Lowe told CNNMoney it wanted access to Moviefone's film and TV show content."Our subscribers want to connect with Hollywood and hear more about what's going on in the film industry," Lowe said. "They'd like to have MoviePass recommend movies to them and Moviefone is iconic."Lowe, a co-founder of Netflix and former president of DVD rental kiosk service Redbox, added that he hopes the acquisition will be a "great funnel to attract new members" to MoviePass, which currently has more than 2 million subscribers.Ted Farnsworth, CEO of Helios and Matheson Analytics, added that the marriage of MoviePass and Moviefone will hopefully lead to more advertising revenue."MoviePass is growing at warp speed. Put it and Moviefone together and it gives us more advertising opportunities," Farnsworth said in an interview with CNNMoney. "This is a great strategic move for us."MoviePass arguably needs more ad sales to convince skeptical investors that its business model of buying tickets from theaters and then offering them to subscribers at a discount through monthly and annual subscription plans is viable for the long haul. MoviePass lets people see a movie a day for .95 a month -- it recently cut its price from .95.Shares of Helio and Matheson Analytics have plunged nearly 55% this year. Investors are worried that MoviePass won't be profitable anytime soon.Part of the problem? We live in an era of so-called peak TV. Netflix, other streaming services and big cable TV networks are churning out more and more quality shows that eat into the time people have to go to movies.Investors also worry that the big chains that MoviePass currently buys tickets from -- AMC, Regal and Cinemark -- may eventually look to cut out MoviePass and launch their own subscription services or other lower-priced deals.Regal, which is now owned by UK-based Cineworld, has experimented with charging more for tickets during peak movie times and less at times when attendance tends to be lighter. Think of it as Uber-style surge pricing, but for movies.And Cinemark unveiled Movie Club, a monthly plan that lets people buy a movie ticket a month for a discounted price of .99, last year.That deal obviously isn't as good as the one a day plan offered by MoviePass. But Cinemark will also allow Movie Club members to roll over unused tickets every month, bring friends at the lower price and offers bargains on concession stand items.Lowe isn't too concerned about competition though. He said he's convinced that MoviePass will continue to work closely with the big chains -- even if Wall Street is nervous."We have to prove we are a driving force in getting more people into theaters. HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. — Several dogs were found dead in a Hernando County, Florida home that neighbors say no one has lived in since Hurricane Irma.Neighbors are furious now knowing they were living next to a home where dogs were suffering inside. "I don’t know how any human could do that," said neighbor Patt Pierce. Pierce said on Tuesday, a construction crew working nearby notified her of a dead dog visible through the window of her neighbor’s home."Our houses are far enough apart where we can’t hear inside the home," said Pierce. Neighbors tell Scripps station WFTS in Tampa that no one has lived in the home since they saw a truck moving furniture out the week before Hurricane Irma. They believe the dogs were abandoned in the home with no food or water."They did not die easy. Imagine being in that home and starving to dead and those animals one by one dropping, she needs to go to jail." said neighbor Chris Kirby, referring to the homeowner. WFTS contacted the homeowner’s attorney who tells us his client, who prefers to go by the name Wendy Lauren Kopp, was letting a man live in the home and he is the one who left the dogs there. The attorney also tells us his client is cooperating with authorities and is not a suspect in the case.The sheriff’s office said the dogs were so decomposed, they haven't been able to accurately count how many are in there. They say their investigation is still ongoing and have not yet announced suspects in the case. Neighbors, however, say they are still heartbroken and wish they could've done more. "For this to happen, all of us are carrying a little guilt like we could’ve done more. We could’ve broke in we could’ve kept calling," said Kirby. "We have a no kill shelter. We have rescue groups. We have someone in the community that would take the dogs," said Pierce.  1902

Furniture tip-overs are a hidden hazard in everyone’s home. In fact, in 2016, Ikea recalled millions of dressers and other pieces of furniture for fear that the items could tip over and crush young children.However, experts say there's an easy fix to the problem that takes less than 10 minutes.According to Patrick McNulty of "Child Safe Childproofing," you'll need a hand drill, a drill bit, a stud finder and a pencil. You'll also need a child-safe strap, like the ones made of metal and seatbelt material that can be found on Amazon.McNulty recommends using two straps for dressers at least 2 feet tall.First, using the stud finder, find the studs at either end of the wall behind the dresser. Mark those spots with the pencil.Next,attach one side of the strap to the dresser. Then, slide the dresser close to the wall and attach the other end of the strap to the wall.McNulty says every 17 minutes a child gets hurt by tipping furniture. More than 46 percent of all tip-overs happen in the bedroom.With simple tools and 10 minutes of work, McNulty says you could save a life.  “Any ER visit you end up paying for, it's going to be far cheaper to just strap all the furniture,” he said. 1233

Greg Eubanks disappeared over the weekend, leaving his family frantic. Two days later, he was at home, safe.The 41-year-old had crashed his SUV around 3 a.m. Saturday in Oxon Hill, Maryland. The SUV went down an embankment and got stuck between the highway entrance and exit ramps, so his car wasn't visible from the road.Eubanks was hurt when he was thrown from the SUV. He was left laying at the bottom of the ravine with broken bones and a dead cell phone for two days and three nights. "He said he didn't think he was gonna make it," Tre Drew, Eubanks' cousin, said. "He heard several fire trucks passing, ambulance passing. He kept saying 'I know they're coming for me' and no one came for him."Eubanks' son, Greg Eubanks Jr., reported him missing Saturday, then drove around searching for his dad. "I was worried. I couldn't sleep. (I) rode around all day yesterday trying to find his car, just looking for any type of piece of evidence," the younger Eubanks said.A highway crew finally spotted Eubanks and his car while repairing a damaged guardrail on the Indian Head Highway. "He said it was the worst thing he's ever been through, and he has been through a lot," Drew said.Eubanks was taken to the hospital for treatment. His family says he is in good spirits and is expected to make a full recovery. GRANDBY, Colo. — Imagine trying to outrun an inferno and three trees fall on the only road out. That's what Mike Darrah had to contend with Wednesday.The Trail Creek Estates homeowner said he received a pre-evacuation order Thursday, Oct. 15, so he and his wife drove up from Boulder County to pack a few things and put them in storage.He said he went back up Saturday to help neighbors with their horses and other belongings and stayed through Wednesday when it "started getting smoky."Soon, he could see flames moving through the entire valley. He will likely never forget the sound."It was like a freight train," he said, "the proverbial freight train, with the wind blowing."Darrah said he saw "swirling sparks" across the street, the entire area on fire."When I say on fire, it was from the ground all the way up to 90-foot pine trees. It was that fast," he said.Darrah told Denver7 he grabbed a few items from his house and started to drive out, only to be stopped by three Aspen trees which had blown over, blocking his way out.He got out the chain saw he said he keeps for such an occasion."I'm pulling and pulling trying to prime it. It would just sputter but it wouldn't get going," he said.Just as he was about the leave his truck and trailer behind and hoof it out of the neighborhood, a forest service employee drove up from the other side."He hopped out, and between the two of us, we were able to muscle those aspens, not off the road, but just enough to the side that I could get around them."Darrah said he doesn't know whether his house survived."We think we've lost it," he said.He told KMGH he has seen pictures of his neighbor's homes, several of which have burned to the ground, but he hasn't seen a photo of his house. He said the pictures were from a friend of a friend who knew a firefighter.He said it's stressful not knowing whether the house is still there, but he feels fortunate that he received advance notice of the fire."We got our family heirlooms and photos," he said.He said he's anxious to get back in to see his neighborhood for himself but understands the priority right now is fighting the fire and making sure everything is safe.He said he's also looking forward to the snow."It may put out some fire, but not enough to let people in," he said.This story was first reported by Lance Hernandez at KMGH in Denver, Colorado. 2371
