The body of 3-year-old Kamille "Cupcake" McKinney was recovered by law enforcement in Alabama on Tuesday, bringing an end to a 10-day search for the girl. Her remains were found inside of a dumpster at a landfill in Birmingham, Alabama, Tuesday evening. Police say she was last seen on the evening of Oct. 12 while attending a party. The police issued an Amber Alert in hopes of finding Kamille.Birmingham Chief of Police Patrick Smith said that warrants will be issued on Wednesday charging Patrick Stallworth and Derick Irisha Brown with kidnapping and capital murder. Both suspects are in police custody. "We believe that this was something they thought about and act upon and they saw an opportunity to take a young child," Smith said. Smith said that investigators believe there is no connection between Kamille's family and the suspects. A routine search led police to Kamille's body. 903

The fight over the future of vaping isn't over in Michigan. In September, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer made Michigan the first state to ban the sale of flavored e-cigarettes. The governor argued the flavors lead to teen vaping. Michigan vape shops fought back and got a judge to block the ban. The preliminary injunction is a win for the businesses, but the governor is vowing the fight isn't over yet. "Ninety-percent of the products we sell are e-flavored," says Ron Pease. Pease is the CEO of Mister-E-Liquid in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The ban the governor put in place would cause major damage to his business. "We have 70 employees so that would impact all 70 employees," Pease says. While Whitmer argues vaping attracts youth, Pease disagrees. "That's the wrong path because the target demographic here at Mister-E-Liquid is 35 to 55,” Pease says. The judge that issued the temporary ban cited the damage it would do to businesses like at Mister-E-Liquid.Michigan's governor isn't backing down, vowing to take the case to the Supreme Court. This means a court ruling that lets vape shops sell their flavored liquids now does not mean they will continue to be on shelves forever. "You can’t take away 80-90 percent of your gross sales and still sport the same business as you did before, that’s economics 101," Pease says. 1332

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Thursday that they have increased the number of cases of lung injury and deaths associated with e-cigarette product use to 805. Of those 805 cases, there have been 12 fatalities. The 12 fatal cases have been reported in 10 states, including two in both California and Kansas. Two weeks ago, the CDC opened its Emergency Operations Center after 380 confirmed cases of lung damage caused from vaping. Given recent reports of deaths tied to smoking electronic cigarettes, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Monday it is activating its Emergency Operations Center. The CDC said that activating the Emergency Operations Center "allows the agency to provide increased operational support for the response to meet the outbreak’s evolving challenges. Agency subject matter experts will continue to lead the CDC response with enhanced support from additional CDC and EOC staff."The CDC has stressed that it does not know exactly what is causing an outbreak of lung disease among those who vape. The CDC said that its investigation has not identified any specific e-cigarette or vaping product (devices, liquids, refill pods, and/or cartridges) or substance that is linked to all cases.“CDC has made it a priority to find out what is causing this outbreak of e-cigarette or vaping-related injuries and deaths,” said CDC Director Robert Redfield, M.D. “Activation of CDC’s Emergency Operations Center allows us to enhance operations and provide additional support to CDC staff working to protect our Nation from this serious health threat.” 1615
