WHAT IT DOESThe first thing this legislation does is create a funding stream to improve National Parks in this country. While visitors have increased 50 percent since 1980, funding has not and it has created a maintenance backlog. Currently, there are around billion dollars worth of repairs needed in America's National Parks. The Great American Outdoors Act sends around billion over the next five years to improve maintenance. PROJECTS EXPECTEDIn Colorado, it means Rocky Mountain National Park will get improved sewage systems; in Montana, Glacier National Park will upgrade their camp grounds; in Arizona, the Grand Canyon will get drinking water pipelines fixed; in the Everglades of Florida, storm-damaged buildings can be repaired; and at Shenandoah National Park in Virginia, 100-year-old trail heads will be updated with better parking lots and easier entrances. LAND AND WATER CONSERVATION FUNDApart from improving the maintenance in America's National Parks, the legislation also, for the first, permanently funds the Land and Water Conservation Fund. Money from that fund goes to improve and protect lands across the country. Revenue comes from oil and gas drilling around the country. 1407

Seventeen black women made history Tuesday night in winning judicial seats in Harris County, Texas.The 17 Democratic candidates were elected under a campaign they called "Black Girl Magic Texas," hoping to be the largest number of black women elected judges in Harris County.Harris County, which includes Houston, is the largest county in the state.Some of the women celebrated their success on social media."This election is still sinking in," LaShawn Williams, judge-elect for one of the county civil courts at law, wrote on Facebook. Several big things are happening over at The Walt Disney Company.During their annual Investor Day event on Thursday, Disney announced that Disney+ is growing, new shows in the "Star Wars" and Marvel universe are coming, Hulu will debut a series set in the "Alien" universe, and The Kardashian-Jenner's have inked a deal and will move to Hulu.Hulu announced via Twitter that the famous family, who revealed their reality show "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" was ending in 2021, is moving to Hulu."The Kardashian Jenners will create new global content under a multi-year deal, to stream exclusively on Hulu in the U.S. and in multiple territories on Star internationally," Hulu announced in a tweet. 707

Social media company TikTok says they plan on hiring around 10,000 people in the U.S. over the next three years, according to multiple outlets. The announcement comes after lawmakers and Trump administration officials have questioned the company’s data collection methods and threatened to ban TikTok.TikTok currently employs about 1,400 people in the U.S., a huge increase already over the 500 employees they had on January 1, 2020, according to Axios."These are good-paying jobs that will help us continue to build a fun and safe experience and protect our community's privacy," a TikTok spokesperson said in a statement provided to CNN. The jobs will range from customer service, to content moderation to engineering.TikTok is owned by ByteDance, which is based in Beijing. TikTok doesn’t operate in China, however ByteDance operates a similar app in China called Douyin.Several lawmakers, including Chuck Schumer, Tom Cotton and Josh Hawley have publicly said they worry TikTok user data could find its way to the Chinese government.
