EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- A former Uber driver who pleaded guilty to raping a female passenger and sexually assaulting as many as 14 others was sentenced in court Wednesday.A judge sentenced John David Sanchez, 53, to 80 years in prison. Sanchez pleaded guilty in August to 34 charges including rape and sodomy of an unconscious person.Sanchez was initially arrested about a month after a woman told police she was raped by Sanchez in February of 2016.RELATED: Uber driver accused of rape to be arraignedSanchez was fired by Uber. (KGTV) - At age 73, Brian Duncan is following his own advice: if you think you can do it, you probably can.When Duncan got out of the Navy in 1967 he wanted to become a police officer. At the time, however, he says departments wanted big, tall men with 20/20 vision. He didn't fit the mold and moved on to a career in the court system.Twelve years ago, the itch came back, and Duncan joined the El Cajon Police Department's Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol, also known as the RSVP program.Now he's taking his service even further, working to become a reserve police officer.If he lands a job, Duncan will be a sworn police officer able to make arrests and carry firearms. The only difference is he'll always have to work alongside a regular police officer.Duncan says his age is not a barrier and he's doing this to make a difference in the community."I've proven I can get through the academy, so I can do it. If I didn't think I could do it or would jeopardize someone's safety, I wouldn't do it," said Duncan.Reserve officers work voluntarily and are not paid.On Friday Duncan graduates from Grossmont College's 32nd Police Academy and already has an application out for a job. 1210

(KGTV) - The owners of the Cottonwood Golf Club in El Cajon have filed an application with the county to convert the property into a sand mine.Details were revealed at the Valle del Oro community planning group meeting earlier this month.The proposal calls for a three-phase mining operation over 10 years.The first phase would take place on the course west of the Steele Canyon bridge, which has already been closed to golfers.Sand is needed as a component of concrete, which has become scarcer during the construction boom of the past decade.The mine would produce a maximum of 570,000 tons a year, creating an estimated 170 heavy truck round trips a day from the site.The property is owned by Beverly Hills real estate agent Michael Schlesinger, who also owns the shuttered golf courses at Stoneridge Country Club and Escondido Country Club.10News reached out to EnviroMine, the consulting company involved in the plan. They said they would comment at a later date.Nearby residents have already created an opposition group called “Stop Cottonwood Sand Mine.”Barry Jantz is one of the organizers who argues a sand mine is not compatible with the neighborhood.“The character of the neighborhood would be impacted,” said Jantz.More specifically, he says they are worried about the noise and traffic from the trucks, as well as pollution, environmental impacts and the potential to decrease property values. (KGTV) - The man accused of hitting and killing a jogger in Lakeside appeared in court Tuesday for a bail hearing.Michael Woodfill is charged with second-degree murder and gross vehicular homicide for the crash Monday that killed 41-year-old Susana Gotell. She was jogging on Woodside Avenue when she was struck.Woodfill had a blood alcohol level of .21 percent during Monday’s crash, prosecutors said.RELATED: Man accused of deadly DUI crash had license suspendedAccording to Deputy District Attorney Andrew Aguilar, Woodfill has two previous DUI convictions from 2006 and 2016.“I think it’s clear this defendant has an alcohol problem given the blood alcohol levels involved, and the fact this is his third DUI case,” Aguilar said.The judge set Woodfill’s bond at million, half the amount prosecutors requested.RELATED: Woman hit, killed by DUI driver in LakesideWoodfill must wear an ankle monitoring bracelet until his trial next month. EL CAJON, Calif. (KHGTV) -- A missing 10-year-old girl was found safe Tuesday afternoon, according to El Cajon Police. Police say the young girl was located at an after-school program. Police originally tweeted that they enlisted the help of a helicopter to search for the young girl. 293
