CNN anchors Poppy Harlow and Jim Sciutto were covering the suspicious packages sent to the Clintons and the Obamas when the fire alarm sounded inside their New York City studio. There was another package -- and it was inside the building where they were broadcasting.Over the loudspeaker, CNN staffers were told to evacuate the building. Right over Harlow's shoulder, viewers could see staffers grabbing their coats and walking out to the lobby."There's a fire alarm here," Harlow said. "We'll be right back," Sciutto said, tossing to a commercial break.Police officers were already arriving outside. The suspicious device was delivered to the mailroom of CNN's parent company, WarnerMedia, around 9:30 a.m. ET on Wednesday, according to a WarnerMedia executive. It "appeared to be a pipe bomb," the executive said. It was addressed to John Brennan, the former CIA director, who is a commentator on NBC and MSNBC.The fire alarm was audible on TV at 10:09 a.m. The entire WarnerMedia operation in New York was evacuated, from CNN's offices and studios on the lower floors to the corporate suites upstairs.CNN had to scramble to keep the 10 a.m. newscast on the air. When the anchors heard the fire alarm, they asked a question to a remote guest, Tom Fuentes, which gave them a moment to size up the situation. Then they tossed to commercial and evacuated. The newscast is usually produced out of a control room in Atlanta, which is why there was no interruption in programming. In the control room, executive producer Michelle Moryc lined up correspondent Rene Marsh, who was standing by for a live shot in the DC bureau, to substitute anchor. In her wall of monitors, Moryc also saw reporter Shimon Prokupecz in front of another camera in the Washington bureau. He had just been on the air covering the other suspicious packages. He was now gathering information about the situation at Time Warner Center. So when the newscast came back from commercial, Marsh explained the evacuation in New York and tossed to Prokupecz for more information. 2064

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Kanye West, who is currently making an independent bid for the presidency, won't appear on the ballot in Ohio due to some irregularities involving his petition to run for office.According to Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose, West and his running mate, Michelle Tidball, "failed to meet the requirements necessary to appear on the presidential ballot in Ohio for the Nov. 3, 2020 General Election."Specifically, information and the signature on West's nominating petition and statement of candidacy didn't match up to the documents used to circulate part-petitions, LaRose said.Click here to view West's nominating petition and declaration of candidacy forms. In order to appear on the ballot, West would have had to file a "valid and sufficient joint nominating petition and statement of candidacy that complies with the law and at least 5,000 valid signatures from Ohio voters and a slate of 18 presidential electors," according to LaRose."A signature is the most basic form of authentication and an important, time-honored, security measure to ensure that a candidate aspires to be on the ballot and that a voter is being asked to sign a legitimate petition," LaRose said. "There is no doubt that the West nominating petition and declaration of candidacy failed to meet the necessary threshold for certification."West likely won't appear on the ballots in enough states to even qualify for the 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency. He's currently only listed on the ballot in Colorado, Oklahoma, Utah and Vermont, though his application is pending in several other states.Earlier this week, election officials in Wisconsin ruled that West would not be eligible to appear on the ballot in that state after his campaign officials submitted paperwork moments after 5 p.m. deadline last week. This story was originally published by Drew Scofield on WEWS in Cleveland. 1904

CLEVELAND — Several Ohio Department of Transportation cameras captured an apparent meteor flash Wednesday morning. The astronomical event was seen throughout Ohio, with some Twitter users reporting their first sighting at around 6:30 a.m. local time.In the southeast portion of the state, Luke Starner of Lancaster, Ohio, captured a dazzling video of the fireball streaking across the sky from a camera at his home. Raw video of fireball in the sky over Ohio Saw one during my jog this morning in Brunswick. Just a big flash of color and gone. Lit up the ground and left a small smoke trail that looked like a cheese puff— chaser (@chaser84) September 30, 2020 ODOT cameras caught a brief, bright flash of light, with sightings reported brighter in eastern Ohio. The vast majority occur over oceans and uninhabited areas. When fireballs occur at night, they stand little chance of being seen due to the lower number of persons out to notice them. This story was originally published by Kaylyn Hlavaty on WEWS in Cleveland. 1994
