SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The July Fourth holiday weekend is expected to bring large crowds to San Diego's beaches.Los Angeles beaches will be closed this weekend, and that has some concerned that even more people will flock to San Diego's beaches.Debra Moore lives in Encinitas. She'd like the beaches closed indefinitely."I think they opened way too soon, and we all saw this coming. They told us it was going to come, and I'm sorry so many more people had to get sick," said Moore.She said young people in her neighborhood aren't taking the pandemic seriously."Nobody is wearing a mask, nobody is social distancing. People are walking around my neighborhood all the time, or on the beach, just like it's normal, and nothing is normal anymore," said Moore.Del Mar Councilman Dave Druker also has concerns."People are very worried about lifeguards being overwhelmed and the whole city being overwhelmed with visitors, cause there's nowhere else to go," said councilman Druker.Tuesday, San Diego county supervisor Nathan Fletcher said it's up to officials in coastal communities to decide whether beaches should close this weekend.Fletcher also said all of the coronavirus outbreaks have been linked to indoor settings. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The California Department of Motor Vehicles is reminding residents about the looming REAL ID deadline. Starting October 1, 2020, U.S. residents will need a REAL ID to fly domestically or enter secure federal facilities and military bases. The new ID is the result of the 9/11 Commission's recommendation to establish standards for identity verification and security features. In California, a gold bear and star indicates REAL ID compliance. The DMV is also reminding residents about requirements to obtain a REAL ID. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – The Fleet Science Center is offering a program that helps San Diego students navigate their way through any challenges they face while distance learning.Participating students will have to go through a health screening before entering the building at Balboa Park.Once inside, classrooms are transformed into individual hubs. Students each have a workspace where they use their own electronic device to connect to their distance learning classrooms. Educators are there helping with any issues that may come up.Andia Pebdani, the Youth Engagement Manager for the Fleet Science Center, said the idea of the hubs came from families who needed help juggling the work life with schools being closed.“Some families don’t have the option at home, or it’s like, ‘I needed to do this so I can do my job, but I can also make sure my student is on the computer,’” said Pebdani.During breaks, educators work on different science activities with the kids or they get tours of different parts of their museum since their doors are still closed to the public.The cost for this program is 0-0 a week depending on whether you have a membership with the center. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Target cash registers suffered a nationwide outage Saturday, leaving some customers around the country sitting in line for hours.The company's corporate office said an "internal technology issue" shut down registers for about two hours Saturday, preventing customers from making purchases in store.Target added that the technology issue was not a data breach or security-related issue and that customer data was no compromised. By 2:30 p.m., Target said their systems were back online:"Target’s registers are fully back online and guests are able to purchase their merchandise again in all stores. The temporary outage earlier today was the result of an internal technology issue that lasted for approximately two hours. Our technology team worked quickly to identify and fix the issue, and we apologize for the inconvenience and frustration this caused for our guests. After an initial but thorough review, we can confirm that this was not a data breach or security-related issue, and no guest information was compromised at any time. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Sweetwater Union High School District officials say their revised budget will not have a major impact on students, but some parents are getting notices from schools informing them of cuts to some afterschool programs, tutoring and summer school.The discovery of an accounting miscalculation over the summer led to a million budget shortfall that the district rushed to fix. On Oct. 8, the district’s board unanimously approved a revised and balanced 2018-19 budget. The San Diego County Office of Education has until Nov. 8 to approve it.Changes to the budget include furlough days for numerous district employees, elimination of paid training days for teachers and cuts to the adult education program.
