The owner of a?dog that was stolen Saturday evening from a Petco in Palm Beach Gardens was reunited with her pet Tuesday morning.The dog's owner, Tara Harris, said police called her in the middle of the night to say they found her pet Maltese-mix named Teddy. Harris arrived at the Palm Beach Gardens police station at about 5 a.m. local time to pickup Teddy, who is 11-years-old, blind and diabetic.Palm Beach Gardens police said they arrested Heather Ryan, 48, who had the dog in her possession. Circumstances of the arrest have not been released by police. However, police said Ryan was arrested near Legacy Place off PGA Boulevard and charged with grand theft.Harris wanted to thank police and the public for their help reuniting her with Teddy.“I’ll never be able to put into words how unbelievably amazing it was (to be reunited with Teddy)," Harris said. The gunman behind the Texas church massacre killed his grandmother-in-law during the attack, multiple friends of the woman told CNN.Devin Patrick Kelley had domestic problems and texted his mother-in-law as recently as Sunday morning, not long before he carried out the largest mass shooting in Texas history, authorities said."We know that he expressed anger towards his mother-in-law, who attends this church," said Freeman Martin of the Texas Department of Public Safety. He said Kelley had a history of sending her threatening texts.But his mother-in-law was not inside the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs when Kelley sprayed the congregation with gunfire and killed 26 people. The youngest killed was a 17-month-old girl, her family told CNN. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has named dozens that contain methanol, which can cause blindness or hospitalizations if absorbed through skin.A consumer watchdog tells us these products are not FDA approved. That's because in March, the agency allowed companies that never made hand sanitizer to make it in order to meet demand. They just had to agree to follow the rules.“So, guess what happened? Some of them didn't follow the rules, either intentionally or unintentionally, and so then, they started getting reports from the poison control centers of people getting sick from methanol in hand sanitizer instead of ethanol,” said Teresa Murray with U.S. PIRG.Murray says many of the recalled products have been made in Mexico. But as part of the temporary guidelines, companies don't have to disclose where the sanitizers were manufactured. So, it's hard for consumers to tell which products might be dangerous.Murray says if you can't tell where the product was made, don't buy it and don't use it if it's already in your home. To be safe, stick with brand names you recognize for now.Murray has found most stores and online retailers have pulled products on the FDA list, but you should still be careful depending on where you shop.“I would caution anyone from buying anything that's on an end-cap clearance aisle, or anything that's from a super discount store,” said Murray. “There may be a reason why one of the mainstream retailers is no longer selling it.”Murray says it's always important to keep hand sanitizers out of reach for kids and pets, but now, even more so.If ingested, methanol can cause even more health problems.Click here to learn more from the FDA. 1738

But for hundreds of thousands of people who rely on regular plasma infusions to survive, a looming shortage is raising alarm bells.Mother, wife and rare disease advocate Deborah Vick lives with myasthenia gravis, a neuromuscular disorder that disrupts nerve to muscle communication.“The messages are no longer being able to reach the muscles to make them work--whether that is to walk or move or swallow or breathe--it's all interconnected,” described Vick.There is no cure, so every two weeks, she requires plasma infusions.“Being in crisis is the worst time to have to wait for treatment,” she explained. “I know, for me, my treatments are every two weeks and days before my treatment starts, my breathing is extremely labored.”Many types of primary immunodeficiency disorders like Vick’s result in an inability to produce antibodies or immunoglobulin to fight off infection.“There's about 250,000 of us in the United States alone,” said John Boyle, president and CEO of the Immune Deficiency Foundation.Canceled drives and fear of COVID-19 exposure, he says, have contributed to a drop in plasma donations for non-COVID therapy.This comes as the Red Cross says hospital distributions of convalescent plasma have increased 250 percent in November compared to September.“To not meet the rising demand is one thing, but to actually have less plasma is potentially very, very, very problematic,” said Boyle.Experts say it takes seven to 12 months to turn around plasma for patient infusion therapies. We are now nine months into the pandemic and a crisis say some could be around the corner.“There is a growing concern about the ability to meet patient clinical need,” said Amy Enfantis, president and CEO of the Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association.She says while the call for convalescent plasma therapies for COVID-19 has raised awareness, there is still an increased need for other rare-disease patients.“Our companies are making therapies every day for patients who have a perpetual need for plasma,” said Enfantis. “And that is ongoing regardless of a pandemic.”For those who rely on plasma donation and infusion treatment like Vick, it could mean the difference between life and death.“The biggest fear is not having the treatments that keep me alive.
