SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Fire crews battled a small fire that threatened structures in Del Dios Thursday afternoon. According to Cal Fire, the blaze started in the area of Del Dios Highway and Toyon Canyon Road on the west side of Lake Hodges. The fire burned roughly three acres and threatened two structures before fire crews were able to stop the forward rate of spread. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Fire crews responded after a boat caught fire in the San Diego Bay Monday afternoon. Video sent to 10News by a viewer shows smoke billowing from the vessel near the Coronado Bridge. According to Harbor Police, the distress call went out around 2 p.m. An Air Marine Operations boat on routine patrol was the first on scene. The federal marine agents used fire extinguishers to put out the fire, which was confined to the engine compartment. Fortunately, conditions were calm at the time."It's very difficult to control a boat that's burning, not only do you have to deal with the people on board, you have to make sure that you ensure their safety and then you have to deal with a floating fire," said Harbor Police Lt. Victor Banuelos. The fire was quickly put out, but three people and the two officers were taken to the hospital for the treatment of smoke inhalation. Firefighters believe an electrical short in the engine sparked the fire, but the incident is under investigation.The 36 foot cabin cruiser was towed to the 10th Avenue Marine Terminal. “I am proud of the work our Air and Marine boat crew conducted this busy Labor Day,” said Hunter Davis, Director of Air and Marine Operations in San Diego. “Their vigilance helped minimize the prospect that these events would have resulted in a tragic loss of life on the water.” 1366

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Home sales in San Diego County accelerated in July after declining on an annual basis for more than a year.New data from real-estate tracker CoreLogic shows 3,988 home sales in July, up 10.1 percent from July 2018. That marks the first time since April 2018 that home sales in the county did not decline on an annual basis, when seasonal factors do not impact the data. Meanwhile, the median price for a home sold in the county remained flat over the year at 0,000. In June, the average rate for a 30-year-fixed mortgage fell to 3.8 percent, according to Freddie Mac. That was the first time the rate was below 4 percent since Dec. 2017. It ticked down even lower in July to 3.77 percent. Mark Goldman, a loan officer with C2 Financial, said the lower rates likely helped people increase their buying power by 2 to 3 percent. "That same house is going to cost a little bit less, and help you afford more," he said. "A lot of times when market gives you something like lower rates, the market takes it back in the form of higher prices, and we’re not really seeing that."Goldman said there is less speculation in the market due to concerns that it has leveled off. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Eighteen-year-old Joseph Preissman is getting ready for his very first day as a college student. But a mistake he made last December is dragging down his final days of summer."It'd be really great to just figure out why we're getting charged so much for something so little, and something that was, like, an accident," he said. The accident happened near Idyllwild. Preissman and a friend were returning from a hiking trip, when he said it hailed. Preissman was coming around a bend and lost control of his car, running into a freeway directional sign and splitting its wooden post. Nobody was hurt, so Preissman thought the accident was ancient history. That is, until July 31, when the Preissman family got a bill from Caltrans to replace the sign - totaling 7.95. All but about of that bill was for labor. "I could even understand half that cost, but I can't understand how it could possibly take three people, let's say from 8 in the morning to 12 in the afternoon, to repair that sign," said Daniel Preissman, Joseph's father. Caltrans spokeswoman Emily Leinen stood behind the bill. She said about 0 of it went to administrative fees. Much of the rest reimbursed the crews for going out to the area and replacing the 16-foot-tall post. They had to make sure it had the proper breaking points for driver safety. Leinen added one crew member had to keep watch for other cars coming around the bend."It's rocky road terrain out there, it’s a mountain, so unfortunately they had to do everything by hand on a blind corner," Leinen said.
