President Donald Trump suggested delaying the 2020 presidential election in a Thursday morning tweet while further perpetuating the false claim that mail-in voting leads to widespread voter fraud."With Universal Mail-In Voting (not Absentee Voting, which is good), 2020 will be the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history," Trump tweeted. "It will be a great embarrassment to the USA. Delay the Election until people can properly, securely and safely vote???"Despite Trump's repeated claims to the contrary, there is little evidence that mail-in voting leads to widespread voter fraud. Five states already conduct their elections entirely through the mail: Colorado, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington and Utah.In fact, Trump himself has voted by mail several times. In addition, legal experts say the president does not have the power to move Election Day. The Constitution provides that power to Congress, who passed a law in 1948 specifying election day as the first Tuesday in November. Democrats control the House of Representatives, and it's unlikely that they will vote to move the election at the behest of Trump.According to CNN and The New York Times, several top Republicans have already broken with Trump on the prospect of moving the 2020 election, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Sen. Ted Cruz, Sen. Lindsey Graham and Sen. Marco Rubio. Trump has already suggested that he won't immediately accept the results of the election if he were to lose in November. Earlier this month in an interview with Fox News' Chris Wallace, Trump said it would "depend" if he would accept the results in which he lost, citing mail-in voting.Several recent national polls show Trump trailing his presumptive opponent, former Vice President Joe Biden, but double digits. Those same polls also show Trump trailing in key swing states. 1895

RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. (KGTV) - North County’s Helen Woodward Animal Center will get “pawliticians” involved in Tuesday’s elections with special poll visits by adoptable dogs. The animal shelter will take four puppies to the Rancho Santa Fe library at 17040 Avenue De Acacias to meet voters between 7 and 9 a.m. “The political temperature is tough right now,” said Helen Woodward Adoption Services Manager Ashley Freeman.  “We are hearing that a record-number of people plan to vote tomorrow and that party lines are more sharply drawn than ever before.  It could be tense out there but a cute fuzzy face is something we can all get behind.” Pets are known to lower blood pressure, decrease anxiety, and increase positivity, shelter officials say.For more information on the candiPETS or to apply to adopt them, please visit the center's website, call 858-756-4117 ext. 313 or visit Helen Woodward Animal Center at 6461 El Apajo Road in Rancho Santa Fe. 986

President Donald Trump's estranged adviser Steve Bannon told a far-right gathering in France on Saturday that they should handle accusations of racism with pride."Let them call you racists," Bannon said to the French National Front Party. "Let them call you xenophobes. Let them call you nativists. Wear it as a badge of honor."Bannon told the National Front crowd that he had learned from traveling the world that "history is on our side" and that "the globalists have no answers to freedom."At a news conference following his speech, Bannon gave his explanation for the recent high-profile staff departures from the White House. In response to a question from CNN, Bannon said, "I think President Trump has been pretty straightforward in saying, hey, when we first started, some of these advisers are what he would call globalists, and he's clearly pivoting to more economic nationalism."Bannon added that the pivot was partly in order to prepare for the upcoming midterm elections."He's got to energize that base and turn that base out," he said.Bannon was himself a high-profile departure from the White House last August and was written off by Trump earlier this year, who named him "sloppy Steve," following the publication in January of incendiary comments attributed to him.Following the White House's disavowal of Bannon, the right-wing media company Breitbart News parted ways with Bannon, who has since emerged in the public eye on a few occasions.Last week, Bannon appeared in Rome to observe the elections and advocated for an alliance between the anti-immigrant League party and the populist Five Star Movement in Italy.The-CNN-Wire? & ? 2018 Cable News Network, Inc., a Time Warner Company. President Donald Trump, after listening to a series of emotional stories and pleas to enhance school safety at the White House Wednesday, floated the idea of arming teachers and school staff, an idea that was met with support from many of the attendees."If you had a teacher who was adept with the firearm, they could end the attack very quickly," he said, stating that schools could arm up to 20% of their teachers to stop "maniacs" who may try and attack them."This would be obviously only for people who were very adept at handling a gun, and it would be, it's called concealed carry, where a teacher would have a concealed gun on them. They'd go for special training and they would be there and you would no longer have a gun-free zone," Trump said. "Gun-free zone to a maniac -- because they're all cowards -- a gun-free zone is 'let's go in and let's attack because bullets aren't coming back at us.' "  922
