Since opening our doors in West Bloomfield more than 21 years ago, J. Alexander’s Restaurant has offered the highest quality food and professional service in a safe, respectful and welcoming environment. We have always adhered to a strict non-discrimination policy for all our restaurant staff and guests to ensure the best possible working and dining environment. This includes treating every customer with the same non-discriminatory service. We do not tolerate any diversion from this policy and likewise do not tolerate any inappropriate behavior from either guests or employees. On June 20, our staff and many of our guests experienced an unfortunate incident that disrupted the otherwise pleasant dining environment in our West Bloomfield restaurant. Our staff made every responsible effort to safely diffuse this incident in the face of profanity and acts of misbehavior directed at them. None of our employees used profanity, made racial remarks or threw food but certain guests did. Ironically, two of those guests involved in this incident have falsely accused our staff of racial discrimination. The West Bloomfield police were called in during this incident to assist with the unruly behavior of certain guests. Any guest who threw food or was otherwise disruptive was asked to leave. Working with police, our staff made certain that every guest left the restaurant through the front door of the restaurant. We have turned the security surveillance video over to the West Bloomfield police. We will remain in close contact with the police department as we await a report on their investigation and their determination as to whether any formal charges related to this behavior are warranted. We are grateful to have been a part of West Bloomfield for more than two decades, and we look forward to continuing to serve our guests with a pleasant dining experience. 1878
South Korean President Moon Jae-In has convinced North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to hold his upcoming meeting with US President Donald Trump at the demilitarized zone separating the two Koreas, a source tells CNN.Moon and Kim met at the same location in Panmunjom last Friday, a historically significant event that was televised worldwide and led to an agreement to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula and formally end the Korean War.There is a "strong possibility" the summit will be held at the site, with some events possibly scheduled on the northern side of the military demarcation line separating the two countries, according to an official with deep knowledge of North Korea's thinking on the matter. The venue makes the most sense logistically for Kim, the source said, because media facilities and equipment are already in place, which could the allow the summit to take place "in late May." 931
Someone broke into Queen Califia’s Magical Circle located in Kit Carson Park. The sculpture garden features many works of art, including a mosaic maze, totem sculptures, a fountain, and a wall in the form of playful serpents. The vandals cut the lock to the gate leading into the property. Then they smashed more than 20 custom shaped mirrors in the mosaic maze. They also damaged two of the totems. The damage was discovered this week.Lech Juretko, of Art Mosaic Inc, helped the artist, Niki de Saint Phalle, create the sculpture garden for the community. He is also the one charged with repairing it.“I cannot really explain it,” Juretko said about the damage, “It’s sad. It’s never happened.”Juretko estimates it will cost ,000 to ,000 to repair the damage. He did not have a timeline for the repairs. The City of Escondido released the following statement to 10News.“The City plans to keep Queen Califia’s Magical Circle open during the regularly scheduled hours, weather permitting. Signage will be posted, and areas that could possibly be sharp from the glass and tile breakage will be blocked off. In addition, we always have a volunteer docent on site at all times while the sculpture garden is open to the public. We are deeply saddened this beautiful space has been vandalized and will restore it to its original condition as safely and quickly as possible.”De Saint Phalle is also known as the creator of the famous Sun God sculpture on the UC San Diego campus. 1529
SOLANA BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) - The City Council in Solana Beach wants to make it illegal to sell any kind of flavored tobacco within the city."What we're doing right now is a reaction to what is literally an epidemic," says Councilmember David Zito.He says the Council has seen the numbers from the CDC and other health agencies showing a rise in underage smoking, mostly related to the increase in e-cigarettes. That's why they're taking such a drastic step."This is not a safe thing to do and we need to take these kind of precautions," says Zito.Under the proposed ban, stores in Solana Beach wouldn't be allowed to sell any kind of flavored tobacco. That means menthol cigars, flavored hookah tobacco, flavored cigars, e-cigarettes or anything else that has a "distinguishable tast or aroma or both, other than the taste or aroma of tobacco, imparted by a Tobacco Product or any byproduct produced by the Tobacco Product."Right now, the ban would only affect a small handful of stores in the city. The two gas stations within Solana Beach already limit their sales of flavored products to just menthol. There are a few other convenience stores that sell e-cigarettes and other flavored products. One business owner told 10News they're a top seller.Zito says the move would help educate people about the dangers of flavored tobacco."Part of it is just doing the little bit that we can, part of it is just advocating for what we think the responsible thing is to do and getting the message out." 1504
