Between Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Thanksgiving hangovers, it's easy to forget about the most important parts of the holiday season. Luckily, Giving Tuesday has arrived to get you back on track.Celebrated the Tuesday after Thanksgiving every year, Giving Tuesday began in 2012 as a partnership between New York's 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation with one stated goal: Encourage people to do good.Giving Tuesday can be whatever you want it to be: Donating to a charity, helping out a friend in need, trying to brighten a coworker's day — anything that "builds a more just and generous world."In the last eight years, the movement has exploded around the world. According to GivingTuesday.org, the event was celebrated in more than 150 countries in 2018, leading to more than 0 million raised for charity by 3.6 million people. In 2019, Giving Tuesday was spun off into its own organization, and now offers social media toolkits and other resources to nonprofits ahead of the holiday, If you'd like to participate in Giving Tuesday, click here to find a nonprofit or charity that's holding an event near you.Alex Hider is a writer for the E.W. BANNING, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a malfunctioning diesel vehicle sparked the first big Southern California wildfire of the year, which has forced thousands of people from their homes east of Los Angeles. State fire officials say the vehicle's exhaust system spewed burning carbon Friday in Cherry Valley in Riverside County, although it hasn't been found. The blaze is raging for a fourth day and has burned one home. It's one of several burning around the state amid sweltering temperatures. Evacuations were ordered for a blaze in Colusa County in Northern California. Another fire in San Luis Obispo County is 60% contained. 641

Boeing has unveiled its newest line of business jets, which the company says will allow VIP travelers to fly nonstop between "any two cities on Earth."The BBJ 777X planes will have a range of 11,645 nautical miles (21,570 km), enabling them to offer the longest commercial flight in the world.Depending on which routes the jets are used on, the new models mean Boeing could wrestle the crown for farthest nonstop travel away from Airbus.Earlier this year, Singapore Airlines resumed its 17-hour flights between London and Singapore on Airbus A350-900 ULR (Ultra-Long Range) jets. But the distance traveled on the record-breaking flights is a mere 9,000 nautical miles (16,700 kilometers), putting it below the range Boeing's new jets are capable of.The planes "can fly more than halfway around the world without stopping, farther than any business jet ever built," the company said in a statement."Our most exclusive customers want to travel with the best space and comfort and fly directly to their destination. The new BBJ 777X will be able to do this like no other airplane before it, redefining ultra-long range VIP travel," Greg Laxton, head of Boeing Business Jets, added at the Middle East Business Aviation Association Show (MEBAA).The jets could be used to connect New York City with Perth in Western Australia, a journey which currently requires a connection and takes more than a day to make. Two versions of the jets have been made, the BBJ 777-8 and 777-9, with the latter offering a slightly shorter range of 11,000 nautical miles (20,370 kilometers) but boasting a larger cabin. The company has released renderings of the plane's interior, although it has not sold any of the planes yet.Other business jets produced by Boeing include the BBJ MAX and high-performance versions of its 787 Dreamliner.Since forming in 1996, Boeing Business Jets has delivered 234 jets on 261 orders. 1909

Brayden Harrington, 13, was highlighted moments before Joe Biden accepted the Democratic nomination for president on Thursday at the Democratic National Convention.Despite the stutter, Brayden spoke with confidence about his kinship with the former vice president. Biden said he too had issues with stuttering when speaking growing up.Brayden said he used tips given to him by Biden to help him prepare for his speech Thursday at the virtual convention. “[Joe Biden] told me that we were members of the same club: we stutter. It was really amazing to hear that someone like me became vice president,” Brayden said.Brayden said during the Democratic Convention that he looks up to Biden."Kids like me are counting on you to elect someone we can all look up to, someone who cares, someone who will make our country and the world feel better," Brayden said.Brayden said he met Biden at a campaign event in New Hampshire in the days leading up to the state’s primary. A few minutes after Brayden spoke, a video produced by the Democratic Party highlighted Biden’s upbringing, which included his struggles as a boy with stuttering. 1134

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. — For three days, Andrew Bryant said he watched the Parkland shooting suspect inside his jail cell. Bryant, an inmate at the Broward County Jail, said he saw Nikolas Cruz pacing and staring at the ceiling inside his individual cell in the infirmary wing.“I don't think he was looking at anyone, just laying down looking at the roof,” Bryant told Scripps station WPTV in West Palm Beach, Florida. Jail records confirm Bryant spent time in the same wing of the jail as Cruz while incarcerated on drug-related charges.Inmate observation logs of Cruz released by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office reveal more insight into the accused killer’s behavior. Bryant said it’s that behavior he saw that made him want to reach out and speak to WPTV. “He was just lost in his mind,” Bryant said.Bryant could hear Cruz, see Cruz, and form his own opinion of Cruz. “I just hope he doesn't plead insanity or he gets off or anything because, in my opinion, I don't think he's crazy and deserves everything coming to him.”Bryant said everyone in the jail, from the deputies to the inmates, were talking about Cruz.“I think he felt intimidated being in jail,” said Bryant. “Everyone had a problem with him.”Bryant’s observations matched those recorded by deputies. A deputy is required to check on Cruz every 15 minutes and record their observations of him. They reported Cruz sleeping most of the day and eating infrequently.Cruz made little eye contact with anyone, deputies wrote in the reports. He often sat with a blank stare and appeared to be in thought. He was not allowed to interact with other inmates.“I’ve got kids so I feel strongly about this situation,” Bryant said. “If he was out of his jail, somebody probably would’ve hurt him, to be honest.”Deputies wrote Cruz is cooperative, logical, and coherent. One night, he requested a Bible to read.On one occasion when he met with his attorney, deputies said Cruz was “responsive to interview, shaking his head, nodding and agreeing, forward and engaging in the conversation.”Jail records show Cruz met with his brother twice last month, as well as with a family friend. He also met with attorneys, psychologists, and investigators.Bryant said the infirmary was on a heightened level of security while Cruz was there. He said inmates were not allowed out of their cells during that time. “When he’s not there, you will get out once or twice a day for an hour or so.”On Fen. 23, Cruz left the infirmary for another floor where he is kept away from other inmates.Bryant was released from the Broward County Jail five days later. 2635
