Breaking news update, posted at 2:19 p.m. ET] There were no signs of foul play in the death of a US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention epidemiologist, said Fulton County Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Jan Gorniak. The preliminary cause of death is drowning, Gorniak told reporters at a Thursday press conference, but the manner of death has not been determined. The investigation is ongoing.[Previous story, published at 1:46 p.m. ET]A body recovered this week from a river in Atlanta has been identified as the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention epidemiologist who vanished in February, Atlanta Police Department spokesman Carlos Campos said Thursday. The remains of Timothy Cunningham, 35, were found Tuesday in the Chattahoochee River in northwest Atlanta, Campos said.A news conference is set for 2 p.m. ET Thursday. The Atlanta Police Department, the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office and the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department will participate.Cunningham, of Atlanta, was last seen February 12, shortly after a CDC supervisor told him why he was being passed over for a promotion, police have said. The disappearance prompted a high-profile police search and a ,000 reward for clues. As days went on, internet rumors circulated that Cunningham's disappearance was tied to his alleged role as a flu vaccine whistle-blower. The rumors were debunked by police and his family. The CDC's director in mid-March issued a statement denying that Cunningham hadn't gotten a promotion and noting that he'd been promoted in July. Atlanta police responded by doubling down on their version of events, citing the CDC as the source of the information. The case perplexed investigators because Cunningham's keys, cell phone, credit cards, debit cards, wallet and all forms of identification were found in his house, along with his beloved dog.In announcing that his body had been found, authorities offered no hint about why he disappeared.Co-workers told authorities that Cunningham had been "obviously disappointed" on the morning of February 12, when he learned why he wasn't getting the promotion he'd hoped for, police have said. He left work quickly, saying he felt ill, they said.Earlier that morning, at 5:21 a.m., Cunningham's mother had received a text message from him, she has said. "Are you awake?" her son asked. But her phone was on silent mode. "I wish I had that opportunity to answer that text," she said later.Cunningham also called his mother at 9:12 a.m. that day, but she did not answer, Atlanta police have said. He did not leave a message.  2582

BARRON COUNTY, Wis. - The home of Jayme Closs, a Wisconsin girl missing for about two weeks, was burglarized on the same weekend her parents were laid to rest.On Saturday, the Barron County Sheriff's Office says officers arrested 32-year-old Kyle Jaenke-Annis for burglary at the Closs home.According to a criminal complaint, Jaenke-Annis broke into the Closs home and stole several pieces of clothing believed to belong to Jayme, including tank tops, a dress, and underwear. BONSALL, Calif. (KGTV) — One year after the Lilac Fire, houses are going up, as well as "for sale" signs on empty lots. Mike and Tami Hulsizer never hesitated to rebuild. “Just knowing that although losing the house originally was tragedy, but I knew that we would rise again and I knew that my Lord would take care of it,” said Mike.Mike says faith has gotten his family through the challenging year. So has compassion from those willing to help. RELATED: Hero horse trainers who rescued racehorses commemorate first anniversary of Lilac FireFrom the design to subcontractors, neighbors and businesses have pitched in to ease the financial burden of rebuilding. “There’s been a lot of hands involved in this house,” said Mike. The new home features spacious windows which highlight the beautiful nature surrounding them. Mike and Tami say their hearts ache for those who recently became fire victims across the state.RELATED: Lessons learned from the Lilac Fire, in San Diego report"They’re going through the same thing we did but they’re just getting started, I feel bad for them, we’ve been there and know exactly what they’re going through," said Mike.In addition to the companies which have helped them rebuild, Mike says he’s grateful to the county for the swift permitting process. “It’s been really a miracle house for us,” said Mike.He hopes to have everything complete in early April and will celebrate with a party. 1434

Bright colors paint the streets and sides of buildings across America, as murals are created as a symbol of solidarity for the black community. But many of the murals already have scars, vandalized with tar, tire marks, and words of hate."No, not surprised. Racism is still prevalent in Santa Barbara, as it is in the entire land, unfortunately," said Ron Paris Green, a musician who lives in Santa Barbara, California. When a mural paying tribute to George Floyd went up in the downtown area, Green jokes that he thought he was in a different city. Santa Barbara has strict rules on what signs are allowed on buildings. The town has a uniform architecture of red tile roofs and white stucco walls. "To have a Black man on the side of a wall, which is supposed to be white, is not something a lot of people want to see, especially in Santa Barbara," said Bix Kaufman, owner of EOS Lounge. After the death of Floyd, Kaufman broke the city's longstanding tradition, inviting an artist to transform the white wall outside his club. The overwhelming white community has a Black population of less than 2 percent."This is, I think, one of the strongest statements in Santa Barbara right now, and it feels really good. And there's been so much positive feedback," said Kaufman. Green visits the mural twice a day now, "I'm very optimistic, yes, because of the young people stepping for the cause."He's been marching with young activists and hopes to send some to a massive march planned for this August in Washington D.C., led by Al Sharpton and Floyd's family. Green's donating proceeds from his album, Ron Paris: "Soul Mate", which is available on Amazon. But the racism the mural was designed to combat resurfaced with a can of yellow paint. The words "All Lives Matter" sprayed over the words "I can't breathe."Vandalism of the Santa Barbara mural is far from an isolated incident. Similar headlines can be found across the country, from Vermont to Texas, Florida, Ohio, and Oregon."It should be a big wake up call for all of America, that there's a lot of problems that need to be fixed and it's not going to happen overnight. But we can start with having justice served," said Kaufman. But in the face of hate, artists and activists have grown more resilient. In Santa Barbara, the mural was not only repaired within hours but also granted permission by the city to stay up indefinitely, according to Kaufman. "We heard the word revolution during the 60s. this is a cultural revolution," said Stan Holder, a poet and activist. Holder has helped cover the Santa Barbara mural with stories of pain endured by generations."How many more innocent Black lives must be sacrificed for us to all realize we are all in this human race together?" Holder reads off the wall."People go back to their regular lives and sometimes forget this is still a problem," said Kaufman. He hopes the mural serves as a constant reminder of the years of work ahead needed to fight systematic racism and achieve equality for all. 3009
