SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man was stabbed six times in the back Friday in a carport in an alley in Pacific Beach, leading to the arrest of an 18-year-old.The 30-year-old victim met two male suspects on the trolley in Old Town and about 3:30 p.m. the trio went, for unknown reasons, to the south alley in the 1100 block of Thomas Avenue, according to San Diego police Officer Robert Heims.Related: Ex-Marine pleads guilty to killing Navy veteranThe victim and one of the suspects were in a carport while the other suspect stood in the alley, Heims said."A short time later the suspect runs out of the carport and meets the other suspect and they run away southbound in the alley," Heims said.Related: Teen inspired by jihadist videos kills boy"The victim was stabbed six times in the back."The wounded man was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, Heims said.Police soon after responded to a fight at the intersection of Thomas Avenue and Mission Boulevard and determined that one of those suspected of involvement in the fight was the suspect in the stabbing.The suspect, identified as Anthony Valenzuela, was arrested for allegedly stabbing the 30-year-old man in the carport, Heims said. 1226

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An infectious disease expert for Scripps Health reminded San Diegans Tuesday to get influenza shots early this season to avoid potentially overloading the region's medical system during the COVID-19 pandemic."If you normally get the flu shot each year, then now is the time to make arrangements for your vaccination, and if you rarely or never get a shot, then this is the year to start doing it," said Dr. Siu Ming Geary, an internal medicine physician and vice president of primary care for Scripps Clinic Medical Group.Symptoms for typical seasonal influenza, such as fever, coughing, headache and fatigue, are similar to those for COVID-19, the illness caused by the coronavirus, and both viruses attack the respiratory system. It remains unclear how the two viruses might interact or affect overall sickness when infecting the same person."We don't yet know how bad this year's flu season will be, but it is possible to get both the coronavirus and the flu at the same time," Geary said. "Both can result in severe illness and complications, including hospitalization and death. While there is not a readily available vaccine for coronavirus, we do know that being vaccinated for influenza is the best thing you can do to protect yourself from getting the flu."Last year, 105 people died from the flu in San Diego County, while the virus killed as many as 62,000 nationwide. Jerry Brown in October, limits cooperation between California law enforcement and federal immigration authorities. It prohibits local agencies from holding some immigrants on the basis of federal detainers, asking about immigration status or sharing information with federal authorities not available to the public, among other provisions.Opponents believe the law obstructs the deportation of criminals by federal authorities."The sanctuary state law is not only unconstitutional, but it is a real threat to public safety because it forces local government to harbor and shield violent criminals," former San Diego City Councilman Carl DeMaio said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities today identified a 19-year-old woman who was fatally shot following a parking lot fight in the Bonita area. Sheriff's deputies responded at 7:40 p.m. Saturday to a report of shooting at an apartment complex in the 5100 block of Cedarwood Road, according to Lt. Thomas Seiver of the Sheriff's Homicide Unit.The initial investigation revealed a fight took place between several women in the parking lot before the victim, identified as Janessa Delvalle, was fatally shot, Seiver said. When deputies arrived, they found people giving her CPR.She was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
