BEIJING, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Sudanese Mining Minister Abdel-Bagi Gailani said here Monday that Sudan is seeking to strengthen cooperation with China in the mining sector.Sudan is a vast country with rich mineral resources, said the minister. However, the country's abundant mineral resources are yet to be explored and utilized due to various reasons such as technical and financial constraints, he told Xinhua.Sudan welcomes and encourages Chinese companies to do business and to invest in his country, hoping that the two countries could diversify mutually beneficial cooperation, said Gailani.Sudan aims to utilize its resources in an efficient and rational manner through sharing China's advanced technologies and learning from the country's rich experiences and increasing financial input in the mining sector in a bid to step up the development of its national economy, the minister added.Gailani was in China for the 12th China Mining Congress & Expo, which will be held in the northern port city of Tianjin from Tuesday to Thursday.The annual event is expected to attract more than 3,000 participants from over 50 countries and regions.

BEIJING, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met with Chi Jae Ryong, Ambassador of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to China, and held phone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and ROK Foreign Minister Kim Sung-hwan on Friday.They exchanged views on issues including the situation of the Korean Peninsula, according to a statement released Friday night by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.Yang said China gives utmost attention to the exchange of fire between the DPRK and the ROK which happened days ago, and is very concerned about the development of the situation.The DPRK and the ROK should exercise calm and restraint, engage in contacts as soon as possible, and solve problems through negotiations and dialogue, Yang said."The pressing task now is to put the situation under control and prevent a recurrence of similar incidents," he said.Parties related should actively work for peace and facilitate talks, jointly safeguard peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula while adopting responsible attitudes, Yang said.Parties involved should work together for an early restart of the six-party talks, and push forward denuclearization process of the Korean Peninsula, Yang said.The DPRK, the ROK and the U.S. sides elaborated on their views on the current situation, and expressed the importance they attached to China's stance and their willingness to maintain contacts with the Chinese side.The ROK and the DPRK exchanged artillery fire Tuesday in waters off the west coast of the Korean Peninsula, leaving four people dead.China on Friday also voiced its opposition to any military acts in its exclusive economic zone without permission, days before a joint military exercise between United States and ROK on the Yellow Sea."We hold a consistent and clear-cut stance on the issue. CHENGDU, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- A spreading grassland fire in a mountainous Tibetan region in southwest China proved deadly when it trapped soldiers and local residents trying to put out the blaze. By Sunday night, at least 22 have been killed and three severely burned, local officials said.The wild fire was raging through a grassland atop a plateau some six kilometers from the county government seat in Daofu County, Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Garze, Sichuan Province. About 500 mu (33.3 hectares) of the grassland has burned, while 200 mu (13 hectares) is still on fire, a source with local fire-fighters told Xinhua."The fire line stretches several kilometers long. As it darkens at night, most fire-fighters have retreated to the camps." Yang Hao, a senior local fire-fighting official told reporters. "However, we are still closely monitoring the situation."Prairie fire is seen in Daofu County in southwest China's Sichuan Province, Dec. 5, 2010. At least 22 people have been killed in the prairie fire.About 2,000 people have joined the fire-fighting efforts. Sichuan Governor Jiang Jufeng led a work-team to Daofu, some 580 kilometers from provincial capital Chengdu, late Sunday night. An emergency medical team is also the en route to Daofu from Chengdu.Local officials said the grassland fire broke out at noon on Sunday and was brought under control at about 3 p.m. However, gusting winds boosted the flames and trapped people fighting the fire.Of the 22 fatalities, 15 were soldiers, two were workers with the grassland administration while five others were local civilians, officials said. NANJING, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- A kindergarten teacher who reportedly burned seven children using a hot iron on Tuesday has been detained for 10 days by police and fired from her teaching position in east China's Jiangsu Province, said local authorities on Saturday.The teacher, surnamed Yi, 30, of Banqiao Kindergarten of Xinghua City, said that "she did not know the iron was still hot when she used it to discipline the children," according to information released at a press conference held by the city government.The seven children were slightly burned on the face. The burns are expected to fade without treatment within two weeks and probably will not leave scars, according to doctors at Xinghua City People's Hospital.As of Saturday, two children had returned to class, one dropped out of this kindergarten, two remained at home resting and two are seeking treatment in east China's Shanghai Municipality, according to information released at the press conference.Further, the municipal police detained Yi for 10 days and fined her 500 yuan (75 U.S. dollars).The kindergarten owner apologized at the press conference and fired Yi.As for Yi's using an iron because she did not think the iron was still hot, many people did not believe this and posted threads online, such as "How could you still think the iron is not hot since you burned seven kids."But the police believe Yi did not foresee such consequences.Dai Yongjian with the city public security bureau, said the iron had been unplugged from the socket for over ten minutes before burning the children, according to Yi's co-workers."Yi had treated children well before the incident, according to our talks with the kindergarten owners, teachers and children' s parents," said Dai.The students' faces did not show any injuries until that afternoon, said Dai.Yang Qiuhong, mother of one injured child, named Wang Junhua, said , "I was angry at first, but now I forgive Yi and the kindergarten since Yi used to treat my child well and after this incident, the head of the kindergarten came to my home right away and took my child to the hospital."The police believed that Yi lacked necessary medical knowledge and did not seek treatment for the children immediately after their faces began to show signs of being burned.Yi was said to "regret her actions very much", according to Wu Gang, deputy chief of the municipal Education Bureau.Yi does not have a preschool teacher certificate, which is quite common in Xinghua City, since only 40 percent of the 1,600 kindergarten teachers have such certificates, said Wu.According to the regulation issued by the Jiangsu Provincial Government, such a certificate is required for some kindergarten posts, such as the head of the kindergarten and medical personnel. Others have to acquire such certificate within three years after working at a kindergarten.Banqiao Kindergarten is a private school established in 2000.Also, Banqiao Kindergarten is a popular kindergarten and many parents line up to have their children enrolled there, said Wu.
