IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) - Loved ones are mourning the COVID-19 death of a beloved Imperial Beach grandmother."I have no words. So hard," said a tearful Angelica Madrigal, the daughter of Juana Barajas.Barajas, 61, first became sick last week. By the next day, a fever had arrived."Chest congested and shortness of breath," said Madrigal. "She called me and said, 'I can’t breathe well.'"An ambulance rushed Barajas to the hospital. She tested positive for COVID-19 and that night, she was placed on a ventilator.Barajas, who lived with diabetes and a heart condition, suffered four heart attacks in the ICU. On Saturday, just five days after she first became ill, Barajas, a mother of three and grandmother of three, passed away."I couldn’t touch her. I couldn’t say goodbye. Had to see her through a window," said Madrigal.Madrigal says her mother was hard-working, humble, and loved to joke around."Since I was kids, she always had two or three jobs," said Madrigal. "She was my best friend. She was everything to me."Madrigal isn’t sure how her mom contracted the virus, but says her health issues meant she did have many doctor's appointments.Madrigal says her mother otherwise stuck close to home and wore a mask.In the days after her mother's death, she and several other members of her family have come down with symptoms, including a fever and a cough. HOUSTON, Texas – A businessman in Texas is facing federal charges after allegedly spending COVID-19 relief funds on improper expenses, including on real estate, a Lamborghini Urus and at strip clubs.Federal officials announced Tuesday that Lee Price III, 29, was taken into custody and charged with making false statements to a financial institution, wire fraud, bank fraud and engaging in unlawful monetary transactions.Price is accused of fraudulently obtaining more than .6 million in Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans. The loans provided by the Small Business Administration (SBA) are meant to support business owners struggling during the pandemic. Businesses must use the loan proceeds for payroll costs, interest on mortgages, rent and utilities.A criminal complaint alleges Price was involved in a scheme to submit fraudulent PPP loan applications to federally insured banks and other lenders, two of which received funding.Price Enterprises Holdings allegedly received more than 0,000, while a loan application listing 713 Construction was approved for over 0,000.The loan applications allegedly asserted both entities each had numerous employees and significant payroll expenses. However, neither entity has employees nor pays wages consistent with the amounts claimed in the loan applications, authorities say.Further, the individual listed as CEO on the 713 Construction loan application died in April 2020, a month before the application was submitted, according to the complaint.Price allegedly used the loan proceeds not for payroll expenses, but for lavish personal purchases, such as spending the loan money on a Lamborghini Urus, a Rolex watch and real estate transactions. It has been a relatively small percentage based on the amount of customers we serve daily. But for us we're a small business, family-owned and have a strong issue with people stealing, in general,” Morgan wrote in an email.Morgan said IB Forum was forced to layoff a large portion of staff when the pandemic first hit in March, giving out all of their perishable items to staff with the intention of being closed. But then take-out was cleared as an option by county health officials, allowing them to keep some staff.But she added that even on a modified menu, some days felt like the last for the restaurant.“Our push to remain open during some of the toughest days was the handful of employees who continued to come to work and a group of regulars who would call in orders, pick up high dollar gift cards or leave extremely generous tips to help support us,” says Morgan. “We couldn’t have done it without these great people.”RELATED: COVID-19 restrictions crushing coin-operated game industryWhen restaurants were cleared for modified indoor dining in May, the restaurant scrambled to get staff back. "Throughout all this madness we’ve had such a dedicated staff. It amazes us how well they’ve adapted to constantly changing schedules, changing health orders, wearing face masks, they have been very diligent in reminding customers to also wear their masks and the additional physical footsteps involved in providing outdoor dining in the parking lot." 3802
