A Manhattan judge ruled on Wednesday that a bar can legally eject and not serve a customer for wearing a hat containing President Donald Trump's campaign slogan "Make America Great Again," the New York Post reported. The judge ruled that there is not a law against political discrimination. In January 2017, Greg Piatek was asked to leave the New York City watering hole The Happiest Hour because he was wearing a "Make America Great Again" hat. Piatek claimed that a bartender told him that they do not serve Trump supporters. According to the New York Post, Piatek claimed in the lawsuit that the incident “offended his sense of being American.”Piatek's attorney argued that his client wore the hat to pay tribute to victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks. Piatek claimed he visited the 9/11 Memorial before going ot the bar. “The purpose of the hat is that he wore it because he was visiting the 9/11 Memorial,” Piatek's attorney Paul Liggieri said, according to the Post.   Attorneys for The Happiest Hour claimed that political beliefs are not a protected class. While Liggieri claimed that honoring the 9/11 victims was part of his spiritual beliefs, Judge David Cohen ruled that the hat is not faith-based.  1340

A nor'easter has smothered a vast portion of the northern east coast with a heavy layer of snowfall, wreaking havoc with major transportation routes and bringing several major metro areas to a standstill.CNN reports that some areas of the east coast received more snowfall in the last few hours than they did over the entirety of last winter.The National Weather Service reported several locations saw more than 3 feet of snow. 436

A pro-growth group's sweeping victory this week could smooth the road for more dense housing in San Diego's uptown neighborhoods.The group, Rise Up Town, won all seven open seats on the city's Uptown Planning Group. The all-volunteer board makes official recommendations to the City Council on proposals in Hillcrest, Bankers Hill, Mission Hills and parts of University Heights. Rise Up Town campaigned on "taller, well designed buildings," with support for affordable development, faster approval, and more walkable and bikeable neighborhoods, with lower speed traffic. It also said the current board members weren't doing enough to support growth in a time that San Diego needs it. "We thought that we could address the problems that we saw in terms of housing affordability, in terms of bike and pedestrian infrastructure within the community," said Clint Daniels, one of the newly elected members. "We got together, we were passionate about it, and we thought those passionate ideas that we could serve the community well."About 500 people voted in the election, held Tuesday before the Uptown Planning Group's meeting. The vote unseated three incumbents, including board chair Leo Wilson. Mat Wahlstrom, who lost his bid for re-election, said he's concerned the new members could serve as a rubber stamp for developers. "None of us have said anything against appropriate density," he said. "We definitely don't want to put all of uptown under saran wrap."There are 17 members on the Uptown Planning Group. A prank gone wrong landed two men in jail and has potentially scarred a little girl for life.At about 10 p.m. local time on Saturday, 25-year-old Vernon Barrett was wearing a clown mask and chasing his 6-year-old daughter outside their apartment in Boardman, Ohio, according to Youngstown's WKBN-TV.According to witnesses, the girl, obviously terrified, was screaming and ran into the unlocked apartment of neighbor Dion Santiago, 48.According to WFMJ-TV, Santiago told police that when the girl ran in to his apartment, he looked out the window and saw a man in a clown mask on the lawn. Santiago then grabbed his gun and fired a warning shot out the window.When police arrived at the scene, Barrett told them he was "playing a prank" on his daughter, according to WFMJ.WKBN reported that Barrett told officers he was trying to scare the girl because she'd been having behavioral issues at school and he thought this would straighten her out.Barrett was arrested for child endangering and inducing panic.
