What you flush down your toilet could be brought back up to detect COVID-19.“Anytime that we are talking about poop, it’s a subject that either brings laughter or disgust; maybe a combination of the two,” said John Putnam with Colorado Public Health and Environment. Putnam is helping lead a team to test human waste to determine molecule levels linked with the coronavirus.“This gives you early warning that there could be an upsurge or a lessening of the disease in the community,” he said.Putnam says a person that’s been exposed to COVID-19 will pass the virus through their feces and possibly even urine. The waste eventually flows into sewer systems, which scientists will now collect.“We can then take a sample at a wastewater plant and send it to a lab,” he said.Labs at places like Metropolitan State University of Denver.“One of the advantages of this approach is that everybody in the community makes a contribution to the sewage,” said Rebecca Ferrell, Ph.D., a biology professor at MSU Denver. She says that when people get infected with COVID-19, they often shed the virus for several days before showing symptoms. Adding that this specialized stool sampling can alert scientists that the virus is in a community before people start getting sick.“It can give you extra warning about what might be happening in the hospitals then days maybe even a week later when people get sick enough that they are going to make demands on health care that you need to anticipate,” Ferrell said. With the cost to collect this data much cheaper than other options, Ferrell says more scientists are now teaming up with more wastewater treatment plants across the country.“These are the kinds of techniques where a relatively small investment early on can help us to get those resources to the right place and we can keep the mortality low,” she said.Hoping to get ahead of the pandemic, testing number two is becoming the number one priority for some scientists. 1965

When Jeff Hill returned to his neighborhood in Paradise, California, after evacuating during the Camp fire, he came across a wayward horse -- in a backyard swimming pool. The horse appeared to have jumped in to escape the flames, and was caught in the pool cover. He had been checking on a neighbor's house to see if it was still standing when he discovered the horse, Hill wrote in a Facebook post."We scrambled to unhook the pool cover and pulled her to the shallow end where we guided her up the steps." The horse got out, shook off, and "loved on us for a few minutes as a thank you, and walked off," he wrote.Hill called for help, and waited with the horse until resources could escort the horse out from the fire zone.As wildfires raged in different parts of California, residents were forced to evacuate -- some without getting the chance to go home and grab their four-legged friends.Searchers combing through the charred areas have rescued hundreds of animals -- including dogs, cats, horses, donkeys, ducks, and a tortoise. Now, community organizations and good Samaritans are rallying to shelter the displaced animals and reunite them with their owners. 1170

When a teen girl died near Oklahoma City in August, her family blamed the 15-year-old’s death on a Benadryl overdose according to a letter from her mother obtained by local media. The letter points the finger at a new “challenge” popping up on social media platform Tik Tok.The “challenge” reportedly encourages participants to take a dozen or so doses of Benadryl to experience hallucinations. The generic name for Benadryl is diphenhydramine. Taking that much antihistamine can cause severe medical issues.“Large doses of Benadryl can cause seizures and, particularly, problems with the heart,” Scott Schaeffer, director of the Oklahoma Center for Poison and Drug Information, told KFOR. “The heart tends to go out of rhythm and not pump blood effectively.”There is currently an investigation into the death of the Oklahoma City teenager and her exact cause of death.Earlier this year, three teens in Fort Worth, Texas, became sick and had to be rushed to the hospital after taking large amounts of the medication. Once they recovered, they told officers they had taken it as part of the Tik Tok challenge, according to Newsweek.A spokesperson for Johnson and Johnson, the manufacturer of Benadryl, emailed Fox News a statement in response to recent illnesses and death:“The health and safety of people who use our products is our top priority. The BENADRYL TikTok trend is extremely concerning, dangerous and should be stopped immediately. As with any medicine, abuse or misuse can lead to serious side effects with potentially long-lasting consequences, and BENADRYL? products should only be used as directed by the label. It is our strong recommendation that all medications be kept out of the reach of children at all times. We are working with TikTok and our partners to do what we can to stop this dangerous trend, including the removal of content across social platforms that showcase this behavior.” 1917

White House chief of staff John Kelly personally denied calling President Donald Trump an "idiot" in an afternoon conversation with the commander in chief, relaying nearly the same statement in his face-to-face talk with the President as the one he released publicly, according to an administration official. An NBC report published Monday claimed, among other things, that Kelly had said during an immigration-related meeting that he needed to "save (Trump) from himself" while insulting the President's intelligence by calling him an "idiot.""I spend more time with the President than anyone else and we have an incredibly candid and strong relationship. He always knows where I stand and he and I both know this story is total BS," Kelly said in a statement. "I am committed to the President, his agenda, and our country. This is another pathetic attempt to smear people close to President Trump and distract from the administration's many successes."The situation is similar to when reports surfaced that then-Secretary of State Rex Tillerson called Trump a "moron."But the White House official pointed out a big difference between the Kelly incident and Tillerson -- Kelly immediately denied the report and denounced it to the President's face. Tillerson declined to do so, simply saying he wouldn't play that Washington game. 1348

While we don’t know yet what the impact of the storm will be for our local teams, the safety of our employees and drivers is always our top priority. We have begun proactively closing operations facilities temporarily in the potential impacted areas. We will pay Amazon employees 100 percent of regular time if their facility temporarily closes and are prepared to provide support for them and their families so they can recover from this storm. Customers living in areas affected by the hurricane may see a delayed delivery promise date on items when they go to checkout. In limited circumstances, customers outside the impacted area may also see a slower delivery promise if the product they are ordering is shipping from an area within the projected path of the hurricane. Right now, our Disaster Relief by Amazon team is closely monitoring Hurricane Dorian and is working to prepare and provide support alongside our nonprofit partners to communities potentially impacted. 984
