SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Students have been released from school following reports of shots fired in the area around Kearny Senior High School Wednesday afternoon. According to San Diego Police, officers were alerted to the reports around 2:20 p.m. So far, no one has been taken into custody and police are still searching for a scene. Mesa College Drive is also closed from Ashford to Armory while police search the area. Kearny Senior High School is located on the 1900 block of Komet Way near San Diego Mesa College. 523

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The first-ever professional sports event to be held on an active military base will be held in San Diego this February.As a special thank you to the military, the San Diego Seals pro lacrosse team will play a regular season game on the flight line of MCAS Miramar on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2020, against the Vancouver Warriors. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The mother of a Cathedral Catholic High School student who sold prescription drugs to minors and marijuana to teenagers pleaded guilty Wednesday.Kimberly Dawn Quach, 49, pleaded guilty to the felony charges, including furnishing Xanax to a minor. Quach now faces between eight and 11 years, eight months in prison.Quach’s live-in companion, William Sipperley III, 50, also pleaded guilty to using a minor to transport marijuana and furnishing to a minor over 14-years-old.RELATED: Mom accused of providing drugs to Cathedral Catholic students  Quach was arrested in 2017 after police said she sold or offered suboxone, an opiate, and Xanax to minors starting in January of 2017.Police also say that Quach gave at least 10 teenagers marijuana to sell, package or transport. Cathedral Catholic students regularly smoked marijuana Sipperley grew at the couples Carmel Valley home.One detective said Quach had as many as 70 teenage clients at the Catholic school and at other schools.During a search of her home, police found large containers of marijuana, plant food, grow lights and drug paraphernalia. Quach is scheduled to be sentenced on August 24. 1182

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The largest employer in the country is waving away a long standing tradition. Walmart is planning to phase out its greeters at more than 1,000 stores across the country. The retail giant says it is moving forward with a new role called “customer host” that is more physically demanding. The hosts will still greet people but must also be able to pass physical exams including lifting a 25-pound box and climbing ladders. Critics say the move targets their elderly and disabled employees, which make up a significant portion of the company’s greeters. “I can’t do that,” said Adam Catlin, who has cerebral palsy and has worked as a Walmart greeter for a decade. Walmart says it is striving to place greeters in other jobs at the company and the title of greeter will be officially eliminated April 26. “I want to keep my job past April 26 because I have made a lot of good friends and a lot of good memories over the years,” added Catlin. Walmart has not said how many greeters will lose their jobs but adds it is, “extending the current 60-day greeter transition period for associates with disabilities while we explore the circumstances and potential accommodations, for each individual, that can be made within each store.” 1252
