ALPINE, Calif. (KGTV) - San Diego County Sheriff's deputies arrested a woman whose home caught fire in Alpine Monday morning. The flames started in a granny flat at the home at 3679 E. Victoria Drive, firefighters reported. At the time, winds were about 30 miles an hour with low humidity.Sheryl Ruiz, 36, was inside the granny flat and escaped without injury.Deputies said a search of the home led to the discovery of illegal drugs and a firearm, and arrested Ruiz.Lakeside and Viejas Fire crews are investigating the cause of the fire.  566

(KGTV) -- An 86-year-old man was hit and killed in the parking lot of an Alpine shopping center Thursday evening, according to authorities. Police say a truck hit the man on the 1200 block of Alpine Boulevard around 4:12 p.m. Thursday. Investigators say the driver of the truck didn’t see the man and backed over him outside a Chase Bank.A worker at a nearby Carls Jr. said the man was stuck under the truck following the accident. Authorities said the incident was a tragic accident and the driver won't face any charges.   572

It follows a college student as he undergoes conversion therapy at the same program Sullivan was a part of. Sullivan told his family he was gay when he was 19-years-old. However, that never stopped him in his journey to pursue his faith in God. "I wanted to please God," Sullivan said. "I sort of fell in love with this idea of God being the only entity that loved me unconditionally."As a student at Crichton College in Memphis, Tennessee, now known as Victory University, Sullivan came across a program affiliated with Love In Action, a Memphis-based, ex-gay ministry aimed to convert homosexuals. "I voluntarily sought out a 'therapist' that was affiliated with them. Monday they launched “Hear Her”, a campaign to raise awareness and provide educational material to empower pregnant and postpartum women.The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data shows there are considerable racial disparities; women who are Black, American Indian, or Alaska Native are two to three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women.There is a website with more information on the CDC’s site, that includes personal stories from women who had serious complications, and a list of signs to watch out for to discuss with your doctor.
