SEOUL, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao held bilateral talks on Thursday with the presidents of South Korea, the United States and Russia, respectively, to discuss bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues including global economic recovery.The meetings took place after Hu arrived in Seoul earlier in the day for the summit of Group of 20 (G20) major economies in Seoul.RELATIONS WITH SOUTH KOREAWelcoming President Hu, South Korean President Lee Myung-bak said he believed China would play an important role in promoting international economic cooperation within the G-20 framework.The two presidents reached a consensus on further strengthening the bilateral relations and on how to successfully hold the G-20 summit.The healthy and stable development of China's economy is very important to the development of Asia and also to the recovery of the world's economy, Lee said.The South Korean president also voiced hopes for the two countries to strengthen their exchange activities with an aim to increase mutual trust and further develop their bilateral strategic partnership.Hu said the Seoul G-20 summit is the first to be held in an Asian country and also in an emerging market economy.Hu stressed that China and South Korea are important neighbors and partners and that China is willing to work with South Korea to advance the bilateral strategic partnership into a comprehensive one.Hu said China has always supported the improvement of relations between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and South Korea."China is willing to play a constructive role in this regard," he said.Lee expressed his appreciation for China's efforts in maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Penisula.

Amman, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- Jordanian King Abdullah II on Wednesday met with Xu Caihou, vice chairman of China's Central Military Commission, who is on his Middle East trip to boost ties with Arab countries. They discussed bilateral and regional matters of common concern during the meeting.The Jordanian king said China is an old friend of Jordan. The two countries have a lot of common interests and share similar views on various international issues. BEIJING, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Hui Linagyu Thursday urged efforts be made to supervise the distribution and use of the living allowance for orphans.Tighter supervision should be maintained to make sure that basic living allowances were paid to orphans in a timely and sufficient manner, said Hui in Beijing at a high-level conference discussing the work to support orphans.The central government has allocated over 2.5 billion yuan (around 379 million U.S. dollars) as dedicated funds for the allowance policy in 2010, according to a circular jointly issued by the Ministry of Civil Affairs and the Minister of Finance in late November.Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu (C) speaks during a national teleconference on the orphan supporting work, held by the State Council of China in Beijing, capital of China, Dec. 30, 2010. MOSCOW, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- A handover certificate on China providing Russia with emergency humanitarian aid has been inked in Moscow between the two sides, the Chinese embassy in Russia announced on Thursday.The document was signed by Chinese Ambassador to Russia Li Hui and Vladimir Puchkov, State Secretary and Deputy Minister of Russian Emergencies Situations Ministry on Wednesday.On behalf of the Russian government, Puchkov thanked the Chinese government and people for providing aid and support to Russia on the abnormal summer wildfires.Li spoke highly of the close cooperation between China and Russia in recent years on emergency rescue and humanitarian aid, and expressed hope that China could further strengthen cooperation and exchange views with Russia in this regard in the future.The humanitarian aid delivered by the Chinese side on Aug. 20 was worth three million U.S. dollars, including fire extinguishers, compressors, fire-fighting suits and gas masks.Statistics showed that the summer wildfires have cost Russia 15 billion dollars.

  

HONG KONG, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang said on Saturday the government will not slack off in its fight against drugs, despite a 20 percent drop in the number of drug abusers aged below 21 in the first half of this year.Speaking at the 2010 Fight Crime Conference, Tsang said both the government and the community attach great importance to drug problems.Although the government's efforts in beating drugs have started to deliver results, it will not slack off and will continue to allocate money to anti-drug programs, he said.Praising law-enforcement officers' professionalism in maintaining law and order in Hong Kong, Tsang said the city's crime rate continued to stay at a low level.According to Chief Secretary Henry Tang, Hong Kong's crime situation for the year's first 10 months remained stable, with overall crime dropping 3.2 percent.
