SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego County is expected to consider a plan to open up county parks for worship and workouts.Supervisor Dianne Jacob is proposing the idea which is expected to be discussed by the board on Aug. 5. The proposal would make it easier for houses of worship and fitness centers, impacted by the pandemic, to utilize county parks. The proposal aims to speed up the permit process and waive fees.Public health orders have hindered the operations of many houses of worship and fitness centers after they were forced to close their indoor areas. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police are investigating the discovery of a woman's body in the waters off Fiesta Island Saturday.Police said they received a call just after 6:40 a.m. about a body floating in the water on the south side of the island. San Diego Fire-Rescue personnel arrived and removed the body from the water and pronounced the victim dead.Police said while there are no obvious signs of trauma, because of the circumstances and condition of the body SDPD Homicide investigators were called to the scene.Little is still known about the victim and circumstances surrounding her death, police said. They described the woman as a possible Hispanic female, but she has yet to be identified.As of Saturday, police are calling the incident a "suspicious death."Anyone with information is asked to call the SDPD Homicide unit at 619-531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 893

  

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County Fire is offering some residents key safe boxes that allow first responders to gain access to homes in emergency situations, County News Center reports.The boxes, called KnoxBoxes, are installed on or near the front door and can only be opened by local firefighters responding to life-threatening emergencies, the county says.County Supervisor Dianne Jacob says the program fulfills an urgent need.“For older folks with chronic health conditions or in need of help with basic activities, KnoxBoxes can be a lifesaver,” said Jacob. “These devices can also provide some peace of mind in a region where wildfire is a year-round threat.”County Fire received a federal grant to help purchase 200 boxes. The county plans to loan the boxes to residents in rural communities.So far, the county says it has received 70 applications. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County health officials say free flu shots will be offered at six events in the coming days, just as flu season picks up around the county.Health officials say this helps lower the risk of San Diegans getting influenza and the coronavirus at the same time and prevent the local healthcare system from being overwhelmed.The upcoming clinics will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The first flu shot clinic will occur on Oct. 22 at North Central Public Health Center, 5055 Ruffin Road.The others will take place:-- Saturday, Oct. 24 at South Public Health Center, 690 Oxford Street, Chula Vista.-- Tuesday, Oct. 27 at North Coastal Public Health Center, 3609 Ocean Ranch Blvd, Oceanside.-- Wednesday, Oct. 28 at Central Public Health Center VIP Trailer, 3177A Oceanview Blvd.-- Thursday, Oct. 29 at East Public Health Center, 367 N. Magnolia Avenue, El Cajon.-- Tuesday, November 3 at North Inland Public Health Center, 640 W. Mission Ave #2, Escondido."The clinics are free and primarily for people with no medical insurance,” said Wilma Wooten, M.D., M.P.H., County Public Health Officer. “We want everyone to be protected against the flu and its possible complications."The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone six months of age and older get flu shot every year. 1330
