SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A mountain lion cub rescued by the San Diego Humane Society continues to make great strides in its recovery.The Humane Society said the female cub was found by Vista Grande Fire Station firefighters near a road in Idyllwild on Sept. 2. The cub was “semiconscious, extremely emaciated, dehydrated, weak and had tremors,” according to the Humane Society.Under the care of the Humane Society’s Project Wildlife, the cub -- believed to be 14 weeks old -- has made significant health progress.Through daily fluid therapy, medications, and proper meals, the Humane Society said the cub has increased her weight from 10.5 pounds to 22 pounds.Christine Barton, the director of Operations & Wildlife Rehabilitation at the Humane Society’s Ramona campus, said, “With each passing day, she becomes more active and responsive and, though she still has some medical issues to overcome from being in such a fragile state, we are delighted she has responded well to our treatment and are hopeful she will make a full recovery. Mountain lions are special predators and we are proud to have an expert team trusted by the state of California to care for the species.”The Humane Society added:“Mountain lions typically stay with their mother until they disperse to live a solitary life at around 12-18 months of age. Because it is not safe to return a young mountain lion to the wild if found injured or orphaned as a kitten, Project Wildlife has been working with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife to monitor her progress and when stabilized, to ensure she has a good permanent home at a qualified facility.San Diego Humane Society acquired the Fund for Animals Wildlife Center in Ramona on Sept. 1 from the Humane Society of the United States. According to California Highway Patrol, the crash happened in a northbound lane of the 15 near El Cajon Boulevard around 5 a.m. A sig alert was issued shortly after as CHP responded to the scene. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A man was taken into custody after he was seen damaging the lobby at the San Diego Police Department’s downtown headquarters.At around 5:30 a.m. Friday, an SDPD officer heard noise coming from inside of the building on 1401 Broadway and saw a man trashing the lobby.Other officers responded, and as they surrounded the lobby from the outside and inside, the man used a large stick or bat to smash glass doors.After some glass broke, officers converged and ordered him to drop the object.Officers deployed less-lethal rounds towards the man and struck him. Once he was on the ground, officers arrested him.Police are reviewing surveillance footage to determine where the man came from and how he ended up inside the building. 751

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A record number of Americans filed for unemployment for the first time last week, leading to increased competition for the jobs that are available.The Labor Department reported Thursday that nearly 2.9 million workers are now seeking weekly payments from the government amid coronavirus-related closures. In San Diego County, the Workforce Partnership reports that it has received notice from 92 companies totaling roughly 12,000 workers — those notices, however, are voluntary, so the actual number could be much higher. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A man accused of causing a flood which some tenants confused for a terrorist attack faced a judge Wednesday to enter his not guilty plea.A Deputy District Attorney argued that Francisco Morales is a danger to the community."He poses a great threat to the community as there are over 200 individuals, citizens in the community of Little Italy who cannot go home; they have essentially lost everything," she said.The judge agreed, and raised Morales' bail from 0,000 to ,000,000. Morales faces 45 counts of felony vandalism and 5 counts of assault intended to cause great bodily injury.Several residents were forced to flee from their Little Italy apartment complex Monday morning after police said Morales opened pipes and used a fire hose to flood all eight floors of the building.Water from the hose and pipes made its way down to all floors, including the basement, according to authorities. Multiple witnesses said some residents were waist- or shoulder-deep in water as they tried to leave."It was like a waterfall coming down on you of water," tenant Ryan Lange said. "When I came down to the bottom floor there were people crying, we're trapped, we're trapped we can't get out!"Some residents said Morales sprayed them with fire hoses as they evacuated the building.Officers located Morales in the lobby and arrested him on suspicion of vandalism."It seemed like somebody was trying to kill everybody in there," Lange said the pain hasn't lessened over the past two days. "I feel like it's unlive-able; it smells like musty and moldy, looks like they're going to have to redo all the carpets and the drywall."Lange lives in one of the 45 units destroyed by the flood.
