SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — While fall-like temperatures lingered around San Diego County for a few days, a heatwave is on the way.Above-average temperatures are expected throughout the week with a heat advisory in effect from 11 a.m. Tuesday through 5 p.m. Friday.With many people still working and learning from home, you may have noticed higher energy usage on your electricity bill.“We’re dealing with some unusual and extreme situations this year given the COVID-19 pandemic and also extreme temperatures,” said Jessica Packard, communications manager for San Diego Gas and Electric (SDGE). “Look at conserving energy when you can, I know that’s easier said than done.”She said the key to bringing down that SDG&E bill is to avoid energy usage between 4 and 9 p.m.This time spent working from home can also come in handy.“If you are home working, try to maybe run the dishwasher during your lunch hour when you normally wouldn’t because you’d be in the office,” she said.To help during this pandemic, SDG&E has suspended service disconnections for those who can’t afford to pay their utility bill. SDG&E is also offering flexible payment plans.Based on annual household income, people who qualify can also sign up for state and federal programs to get discounts on monthly energy bills.“Look at some of our customer programs and assistance options if you’re really struggling and want us to cater maybe something to help you get through this difficult time,” said Packard.The hot and dry conditions across the county also cause fire concerns to grow. Firefighting agencies are asking everyone to remain cautious and avoid doing anything that can spark a fire.Right now, Packard said there is no need for Public Safety Power Shutoffs, but SDG&E meteorologists track and monitor the weather conditions daily in case there is a change.“At SDG&E, we really don’t want to turn off your power,” she said. “We try to give at least 48 hours’ notice in advance. It has nothing to do with high usage, but more on the high fire threat districts that say Santa Ana winds are coming through, we need to protect your house and the powerlines, should Santa Ana winds impact powerlines.” 2195

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — With San Diego County back in the purple tier, religious gatherings have to move back outdoors.The first Sunday back in California’s most restrictive tier and Rock Church held five outdoor services around the county, but this is not new for them. The megachurch moved to live streaming of services at the beginning of the pandemic, then added in outdoor services about six weeks ago.In the red tier, religious services could hold indoor services at 25% capacity or 100 people, whichever was fewer. Point Loma’s Pastor Travis Gibson said during this time, they had the option to move outdoors, but with 7,000 people attending Point Loma’s services alone, it wasn’t worth it.“One hundred people is not even the volunteers so this is the best option,” he said, standing outside after an outdoor service.RELATED: San Diego houses of worship told to move services outside by SaturdayHe said they have anywhere from 50,000 to 75,000 people watching their live streamed services every week, with only about 1,000 people coming to this new outside setup, but they’re happy to be able to give different worship options to their members.“There are so many ways to worship God. This is the second time churches were asked to move outside. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children is asking for the public’s help locating a 16-year-old girl who reportedly disappeared from her Northern California home.Lia Long is described as a light skinned Native American female, standing 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighing 125 pounds with long black hair and brown eyes. Long currently has one dermal (dimple) piercing on both her right and left cheek.Long is said to have a tattoo with the words “forever in my heart Alyssa 05/23/17” tattooed on her right clavicle and another with the upside down crescent moon on her right thigh.Police are also looking trying to identity a light skinned white or Hispanic male and a black male adult who are believed to have left the city of Williams with Long. No further information about the two males was provided.A vehicle associated in the search is a blue/silver colored BMW, possibly a 7 series, Lakeport Police said."We continue to be concerned for Long’s safety and ask anyone with information regarding her location or activity to contact your local law enforcement agency or the Lakeport Police Department via Facebook, anonymous text message from your cellular phone by texting the words TIP LAKEPORT followed by your message to the number 888777 or by telephone at 707-263-5491,” police said. 1368

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Two U.S. Army Special Operations soldiers were killed and three others were injured during an aircraft incident, a U.S. Army official confirmed.The incident happened around 7 p.m. Thursday evening during what was described by a U.S. Army Special Operations Command public affairs officer as “routine training.”Department of Defense officials confirmed a Blackhawk helicopter crashed on or near San Clemente Island. An Army Public Affairs Officer sent ABC 10News a statement reading: “An element of U.S. Army Special Operations Command was conducting routine training in the vicinity of Coronado, California, on August 27, when an aircraft incident occurred. Two Soldiers were killed and three were injured. The area has been secured and an investigation into the incident is underway. More information will be released 24-hours following next of kin notification. Our sincere condolences go out the families and friends of the deceased. We thank you for not contacting them during this difficult time.”ABC 10News learned the soldiers were taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital following the incident.Brian MacPherson saw the helicopters land at the hospital, "I knew something was really really wrong ... My mind immediately went to sympathy for that soldier because I knew a sacrifice had been made."He said the first responders ran out with a gurney, "it looked like one of the doctors jumping on the gurney, straddling the injured soldier and providing CPR that is just something dramatic it caused me tears driving to work, just thinking about the sacrifice that our military is making even in training.""It saddens me that some of our elite members that are sent to protect our freedoms were injured in training, preparing for the ultimate sacrifice which in this case two of them made for us," he said.Just last month, on July 30, another military training accident occurred off the coast of San Clemente Island when an amphibious assault vehicle accident began to take on water and sank, killing nine service members.ABC 10News will update this story as more information becomes available. 2120
