CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - An afternoon drive on the I-805 was interrupted by an explosion of glass, and a very close call.Just before 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jennifer Opdahl was northbound in the slow lane, and traffic was flowing. As she drove under the East Palomar Street overpass, she heard a close 'boom.' She didn't see anything flying at her, but she felt something."Kind of an explosion. Just heard glass splintering. It clearly came from my above my head. I think I ducked and screamed, but I was still driving," said Opdahl.When she later got out, she could barely believe what she was seeing: the sunroof on her Volkswagen Golf was shattered. Under the glass is a panel which slides back and forth. Whatever struck likely bounced off. Opdahl is thankful the sunroof wasn't open. The roof is inches from where her head was. "I dodged a bullet. I very easily could be dead right now," said Opdahl.Ophdal believes that bullet was a something heavy tossed from the overpass. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A Chula Vista police officer shot and killed a man who stabbed him several times in the face Tuesday night.Two officers got a call from a resident on Melrose Ave. who said a man threw a piece of concrete the size of a baseball at his head abouut 9 p.m.The officers determined the man was at a home on Monterey Ave. and went to the address at 10:25 p.m., police said.A woman opened the home's front door to the two officers.  The man began assaulting the first officer, police said, and they scuffled.Police tell 10News the man stabbed the officer up to half a dozen times in the head and face. The officer fired several times in self-defense, police said.At least one shot hit the man, who died on his way to the hospital.  CVPD identified him as 27-year-old David Scott.The second officer and the department chaplain, who was on a ridealong, were able to assist the injured officer. CHULA VISTA (KGTV) - After a series of fires, Chula Vista Police have begun the process of clearing people out of the Otay Mesa River Valley. Tuesday morning, members of the CVPD Homeless Outreach Team handed out vacate notices to people living in the area. Several fires have broken out in the river bed recently, requiring large responses from local fire agencies. Chula Vista Police said after people have been moved out, they will begin clearing brush.
